In 3.5, there is no DR like x/+y, it seems to mostly be x/magic. How do I beef up a special creature to make its DR something to be reckoned with?

DM

Give it a material based DR, like silver. Or combine the two and make it DR x/silver and magic. That way, unless they hit it with an alchemical silver weapon that has at least a +1 enchantment on it, the DR takes effect.

Special materials are a good way.

In 3.5 a magic sword doesn't go through DR 5/silver.

Or combining the various types of damage reduction: DR 10/silver and good like some devils have.

DR X/silver and magic is way too easy: weapons of even mid-level PCs can be assumed to be magical, and if they're not....well, that's what the Magic Weapon, Greater spell is for. :)

Give them DR x/+y? It's your campaign. If you do this though, be *very* careful how you spring it on your players. They should reasonably be able to expect DR works RAW--unless you give them hints. (*Farmer chews his piece of straw. "Yep. Them varmints, I hear they can take the blows from all but the most po'rful of magic weapons--and they jest keep a-comin'!"* : )

True, but we don't know the level of the party. If it's a low level party, they might not have silver weapons. If they do, it's unlikely they are enchanted (sure they can magic weapon them, but that takes an action).

If he really wants to make the DR something special, he should make it DR x/sour disposition, or DR x/deliriously happy. (i.e. DR x/-) ;)
