3.5 rumors from montecook.com

The more I see of 3.5, the more it worries me. Some of the changes are pretty good, they have been problems in 3e, but they are also changing a bunch of other things or making supplements core, which worries me...

"—All unnamed bonuses on magical items are considered circumstance/competence bonuses and do not stack"

That stinks. And don't circusmtance bonuses stack with competence bonuses?

Yes, but not with each other... (generally). Unnamed bonuses stacked with ANYTHING, including themselves. Apparently in 3.5e, all bonuses will be typed, and you will have no bonuses that stack with everything else. You could still use a Climbing Kit (+2 Circumstance Bonus) and a Ring of Climbing (+10 Competence Bonus) to get a +12 Climb, but not Camouflage paint (+2 Circumstance Bonus) and a Cloak of Elvenkind (+10 Circumstance Bonus) for +12 Hide... You'd be limited to +10.

There have been a lot of haste rumors going around, I'm not sure this is straight from the horse's mouth. No offense to the original poster, I saw this post a few days ago on monte's board, wasn't quite sure what to make of it.

A lot of it seems logical, but some of it could just be made up to seem that way. I'm not saying anything up there is NOT true, Im just saying its a little dubious.

Although this quote makes me curious as to which "class ability" they are talking about:

—For a caster to enhance a spell with a metamagic feat, they must have access to the spell slot that a metamagicked spell would normally utilize, even if a class ability allows a spell to be prepared in a lower level slot

As someone said, Improved Metamagic has only been seen in 2 places so far, Magic of Faerun on the Incantrix and ELH as an epic feat. Did another class get this ability or is it a magic item, or ... what?

Weren't it a dwarf PrC in a dragon issue that did get Improved Metamagic also ? Stonecaster or stonechild or something. I remember having seen something like that on the forums.

Remember that they stated that some of the old prestige classes that will be included in the new DMG will be changed or updated for the 3.5. Improved metamagic may be a standard feature of some of them like the archmage.

Hmmm... I think my last post date back from the first quarter of 2002. It's good to post something again :) .

Gumby's got it right. Some of the inconsistencies that Rigamortus2 and others have pointed out are because some of these "facts" are completely wrong. :D
