D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 ~ Second Familiar?

I have a dumb question. How do you get a large familiar? The improved familiar feat does not include any large creatures, and the text implies that only other similarly sized creatures be considered suitable. There aren't even any medium sized creatures in the imp. familiar list. So thats jumping 2 whole size categories. It does not sound like you are using the same set of rules as I do.

"The list in the table above presents only a few possible improved familiars. Almost any creature of the same general size and power as those on the list makes a suitable familiar."

Well, there's only one REAL way to get a large familiar: convince your DM either that a specific familiar of larger than average size is a suitable substitute, based on it's power or CR, or that the DanDWiki's Big Familiar feat should be acceptable (Big Familiar (3.5e Feat) - D&D Wiki) based on the lack of familiar-specific bonus. Other than convincing your DM, the closest you could come is by taking the "Obtain Animal Companion" feat shown in the PHB2, which lets you gain an Animal Companion as per a druid or ranger.

Off the top of my head, Complete Warrior is one source among many others that lists additional Improved Familiars to choose from. Among the possibilities listed there is the Winter Wolf, which is a large creature. I'm positive there're other large IFs out there, but am AFB.

Looking through ALL the official 3.x edition handbooks, I can tell there's no feat that could grant you to have two familiars at time.

Bye, MadLuke.

The Improved Familiar list has been added too in different official publications. Winter Wolf, Hippogriff, and Howler are all listed and have a size of L. Apparently there's also a feat called Increased Familiar Size in Mongoose's Ultimate Feats, but I would certainly rule that you can get large sized familiars of the appropriate CR at the appropriate level with the Improved Familiar feat.
