[3.5] The Storm Coast

Mark Chance

Boingy! Boingy!
As the hobgoblin's turn to look behind them, Isóriand flexes his muscles and attempts to break the bonds holding his hands.

The bond break with an audible snap! at nearly the same time Theophilus slides off the table onto the floor to quickly find a sharp bit of metal. The hobbo still in the room turns at the sound, sees Theophilus out of place and Isóriand with his hands unbound.

"Huh?" it grunts.

OOC: Initiative checks! You've got a surprise round on the hobbo. A single action, please. Keep in mind that for the moment, everyone is entangled. If you want to try to cut your bonds, make a Strength check with a +4 circumstance bonus for the first attempt.

[sblock=Entangled]An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a -2 penalty on all attack rolls and a -4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a Concentration check (DC 15 + the spell’s level) or lose the spell.[/sblock]

Isoriand launches himself at the nearest hobgoblin, going for the creature's sword!

Disarm/Grab item

Not sure how you want to handle this, Mark. Since he acts in a surprise round, I don't think the hob gets an attack of opportunity against him. So I think it is just an opposed attack roll? Or maybe not, since the weapon isn't physically in the hob's hand?

Boingy! Boingy!
Theopholis finds the bit of metal just as he hears Isoraind's bonds snap. He immediately starts working to free his hands! Lyryc checks his bonds and attempts to cut himself lose. Once he does so, he will stand up and weild the piece of metal in his hand as a weapon. Isoriand launches himself at the nearest hobgoblin, going for the creature's sword! There is a brief struggle, and the wood elf ends up with a yard of cold steel in his hand!

"Escape! Escape!" the hobbo shouts.

Then, from the other corridor down which Morgav vanished, echoes a thunderous, horrifying howl.

[sblock=For Isoriand]
Isoriand can see down the hall behind hobbo #2. Hobbo #1 is about 30 or so feet away.

[sblock=OOC for Everyone]
Ragg is still KOd. Everyone else is conscious with bound feet; treat as entangled. Isoriand has hobbo #2's longsword. Theophilus and Lyryc are armed with improvised daggers.

I gave Isoriand a circumstance bonus to his disarm/grab owing the sudden, surprise nature of the attack. :)

I've not updated the map. Isoriand is off the table immediately north of hobbo #2. The other villains aren't in the room.

[sblock=Combat Box]
Isóriand: 1 lethal, 8 nonlethal.
Theophilus: staggered; 12 nonlethal.
Ragg: KOd, stabilized; 13 lethal.
Lyryc: 4 lethal.
Everyone Else: uninjured.

Theopholis is going to use his makeshift dagger and cut through the bindings around his ankles and then move towards the the doorway that Isoriand and the Hob are fighting. Staying clear of the line of sight down the corridor. He hopes to get a surprise attack on the second hob as he tries to reenter the room.

Thy wounds are healed!
"ZZZzzz....ZZZzzz..." the old wizard lays on the floor out cold and not knowing that his fate is in the hands of his friends. A small bit of drool escapes the wizards mouth as he sleeps.

Lyryc-Round 2

Gee, who knew Ragg was a heavy sleeper?

Lyryc will attempt to cut the bonds off his feet so that he can aid his comarades in combat. If he doesn't cut himself free, he drops the metal, almost shanking him in the leg.

[sblock=Str check]
1d20+0=7

I'm not sure Lyryc made the check with a 7.

Boingy! Boingy!
The horrific noises continue to echo into the chamber from down the northern corridor. A savage growl. Panicked chanting in an arcane tongue. A pained scream.

"ZZZzzz....ZZZzzz..." the old wizard lays on the floor out cold and not knowing that his fate is in the hands of his friends. A small bit of drool escapes the wizards mouth as he sleeps.

The hobbo recovers from his surprise quickly, albeit not quickly enough to prevent the wood elf from taking his sheathed sword. It yanks a dagger from a sheath and lunges for Isóriand. The attack is clumsy. Isóriand blocks the thrust with his free arm.

Having slid the hobgoblin's blade from it's sheath, Isóriand immediately reverses the sword's path, thrusting it into his captor's belly!

The hobbo grunts in pain. Theophilus and Isóriand hear at least one rib crack. The creature's studded leather takes only some of the impact. The hobbo staggers, one of its knees almost buckling.

Gee, who knew Ragg was a heavy sleeper? Lyryc says as he cuts the bonds off his feet so that he can aid his comrades in combat.

Isóriand sees the other hobbo draw its sword before it comes charging back down the hall. It is so intent on the wood elf that it doesn't see Theophilus crouched just to the left of the hall against the dank wall.

[sblock=OOC]
Theophilus gets to attack at the top of the round against the other hobbo. Lyryc is still basically prone. It's a move action to stand.
