D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Update to Spellfire...

rhammer2

First Post
I was hoping that the new Player's Guide to Faerun would have a 3.5 update for Spellfire. It should have several changes/clairifications made to it:
  • Is it now a free action to absorb? (Rod of Absorption is)
  • There should be no reflex save since it is a ranged or melee touch attack to use
  • The character should be limited to spending no more than their character level in spellfire levels per release

Has anyone seen or read an official update on Spellfire?

I agree with your fixes. However, the only thing I have heard about from PGtF regardling spellfire is the Spellfire Heirophant prestige class. I have asked repeatedly about it but nobody will give a response.

Perhaps I'll check that tonight.

The designers official stance for PGtF was that if it wasn't updated in this book then the FR material may be played as is in 3.0

Is this a specific rule for FR? I think the idea for non setting-specific material was that everything that doesn't receive an update by 3.5 books is to be considered obsolete and NOT to be used in 3.5. That obviously doesn't apply for flavor or non-rule material.

It's what Rich Baker stated concerning Player's Guide to Faerun. There was so much FR material that needed to be covered, to save space, they touched on only the bits they felt absolutely needed updating for 3.5. So the bits that were left should be fine for 3.5 play, in theory. ;)

Now as to whether anything slipped through the cracks (very possible) such as Spellfire... *shrugs* I'm a fan of quality house rules critiqued by the rule-savy fellows here on ENWorld. :D

Actually, no. Spellfire is supposed to be a horribly unbalancing power--the canonical spellfire weilder, immediatly after taking her "Spellfire wielder" feat, destroyed a Dracolich.

A good house rule for Spellfire, IMO, is to give it a +1 / 2con LA.
