D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Whatever happened to Negative Energy Protection

The title says it all...

I can't find the spell (or any equivalent) in 3.5.
It's not listed under "name changes", either.

so... what about it? where's it gone?

Look under "Death Ward."

I wouldn't have known that if it hadn't been for a web column of chat I saw a while back, so it's not embarrassing to admit it. :D

thanks for your answer, however...

death ward existed in 3E as well, as a 4th level spell - it's still a 4th level spell.

negative energy protection was a 3rd level spell.

did they fold it into one, then?
do you know why that is?

Negative Energy Protection was nearly useless IO, and IME no one ever used it. Death Ward was pretty sweet before, and now it's even sweeter.

personally, I never used the spell, but one of my players does.

as a kind of "lesser death ward" I still think it can be useful. strange that they chose not to include it. It certainly wasn't imbalanced and for someone w/o acces to 4th level spells it was a viable choice...
