[3.5] Will there be a list of changes once the books come out?

anyone know if there will be some kinda document that lists ALL the changes made in 3.5? i don't know about the rest of you, but i don't wanna buy the books, and then have to read over every single page to find out what is different in 3.5. if they had some kinda appendix or something that said "Changes In 3.5" or something like that, that would be great. not that i'm not gonna buy the books, i will, but i just don't wanna read the whole thing over again. if 3.5 is gonna be backwards compatible, then i think they should inform as to what the changes are, instead of making us read through the books, reading over stuff we already know, just to find, for example, a change that is only 1 paragraph long on a page of stuff that hasn't been changed.

I don't believe such a list is formally planned by WotC, but I have no doubt that someone will compile one. It's a large task, though!

well, i look forward to someone taking the initiative to do so

i for one, feeling comfortable with the rules as is, can imagine myself missing SOMETHING in the 3.5 books, just because i probably won't read every page line-by-line to see what the changes are. heck, even in 3.0 i still find myself missing important rules because i happen to skip 1 particular line when scanning over the book.

i can imagine certain sections of the 3.5 books may not be that different from 3.0. on the other hand, what about spells? i can imagine that more than 1 or 3 are probably gonna be revised for 3.5. that being my assumption, i cringe at having my 3.0 phb next to my 3.5 phb and going spell by spell to see if there is any change (not that i would actually do that, but if someone else would and let me know what they find...) i think the same could be said for magical equipment, regular equipment, almost anything in the book for that matter

that being said, hopefully someone will take this little thought into their head and start making plans on creating a master document for the differences between 3.0 and 3.5

in regards to the SRD, i've only looked at a few times so i'm not really familiar with the whole updating process, even if it is updated, would the SRD explicitly state that [this has been changed in 3.5] or something like that? when i think of the SRD being updated, i just assume that it will be in the same format as the current SRD, with no way to tell what has been changed without having to read over the entire document, which i would rather not have to do.

Plus it will probably be in the same horrible rtf format as the current SRD, which reminds me...I need to go pre-order the books from one of the online sources offering big discounts already....and decide whether to order two of each (one for my wife too) or just suck it up and share.

Hmmm. Inside information, former playtester ? :D

I imagine that they will actually ditch the existing SRD entirely and replace it whole-cloth with a new one. I think that doing the d20M SRD helped them sort out the best way of handling it.

That's what I'm hoping, anyway!

Andy the WOTC intern has said on the OGL mailing list that WOTC will have 2 keep 2 SRDs posted, 3.0 and 3.5. Even if they didn't continue to host both versions it would still be legal to use the 3.0 version because OGCed stuff cannot be revoked.

I sure hope there is a list of changes for the reason already mentioned. Although I plan to get the new books at some point, I don't plan on throwing out the ones I have.

I also don't plan on going through the entire book sentence by sentence to see what's different, and then making a list of it. If they're gonna go change the rules on us, fine, its their game, but they should at least make a specific list of all the changes.

I just had a thought...

The SRD will NOT have all the changes in the new books, because the current SRD does not have everything in the current books.

The current SRD does not have

The scry skill
Beholders, Mind Flayers and other monsters
Correctly named spells
Any flavor text or copy-right material (no Red Wizard or Greyhawk gods)
Some magical items, if I recall correctly.

Whose to say the revised SRD is going to be as complete?
