I liked the apprentice rules. It is hard for me to picture being able to train some classes in the space of time it takes to actually level. It was a good way of showing that the character had trained previously in the class and was already versed in all the basics so that future advancement had a better explanation.

I'm not particularly unhappy they are gone, but I did like them conceptually. I can basically get the same feel through a variety of other means.

Worst change: not being able to select divination as a prohibited school. Not all wizards care about gathering information magically...

....though they all should...
 


Worst changes, IMO -

The spell focus, greater spell focus nerfs.
The haste nerf.

There are other things that I felt like needed to change, but didn't (the way languages work, and the rules for the wall of iron spell, among others).

But these things are easily house-ruled.
