D&D 4E 3 months in and 7 to go - will YOU switch to 4e?

How will my game be affected by 4e?

My main group will likely switch to 4E, from our current game of WFRP. Our group stopped seeing eye to eye on 3.5 long before we stopped playing it.

I plan on timing my 3.5 campaign to end about May, so I can start fresh with 4e ( in the same homebrew setting, in the aftermath of the 3.5).

I wasn't sold on 4e at first: in fact I hated the thought of overpowered anime characters runnig around doing spinning attack 20 feet in the air...
Then I saw the light: SWSE. If 4e is as much like that as I think it will be, I will be one happy DM.

This poll needs a "wait and see" option.

For the first time since 1e, I'm not super excited about a new edition of D&D. I'm not actively opposed to it, but I'll need to see more proof of elements I really like before getting behind it.

That said, I'll probably buy the core rulebooks as works of art, if nothing else. And even if I don't like the system, I can always join the cannibal crowd and mine it for house rules.

We have three campaigns fully in progress right now, with a fourth planned. Once we're done with those, we're likely to switch... although we could wind up running 4e concurrently with a leftover 3.5 campaign.

The multiple campaigns thing is due to sharing the DMing duties, btw.

At this stage I don't feel like enough information has been given out by WotC for me to make a decision on switching or not. I imagine that I will at some stage, but I doubt that it will be from the day of release.

I have actually put a campaign on hold (that I will convert over for our own little conventions). As for our regular group we as playing Star Wars until 4E comes out and then I intend to start a new 4E campaign. This new campaign will be the first Pathfinder series and I will convert it to 4E.

Cheers, C

I'm planning on not gaming anymore at all after February, actually.

Not that I don't still like gaming, but my group is moving back to the mainland so I'll be without players. Efforts to recruit/meet new players have turned up nada. I'd probably stick with 3.5 if I could find players--no money in my budget right now for new books, not even one!

More is the pitty. You are exactly the target audience for their "Dungion Insider" online gaming table.

My first thought was to rally behind all of the people who are posting comments to the effect of "I plan to wait and see first." But then the realist in my brain took over. Of course I am going to buy the books immediately, and I am going to read them immediately and start playing them immediately. It's what I do.

When the 3.5 books came out, I pre-ordered all of the books on Amazon without blinking, even though the changes it made were probably not worth a whole new edition. When the books came in, I upgraded my 3.0 campaign to 3.5 at the very next gaming session.

I'd like to think that I am cautious and rational about this hobby of mine, but that's just not the case. After all, how can I effectively complain and rant about a game system that I've only read about, but never played? :)

Based of former online gaming experience, I know that I'm the sort of person who doesn't like live online games. I've done PbP and would consider doing that environement again. Not anytime soon, though. I took a PbP hiatus from EN World starting in October and have been really happy to not have to DM post like a machine M-F.

Could just be that this is my season to bow out of gaming altogether. And, you know, I'm not feeling too badly about that. :)
