Westenberger's Dweomer Dampener
Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 6
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Duration: 3 rounds/level

As dispel magic, only with a longer duration and can only be used to suppress magic items.

Westenberger's Ki Dampener
Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. plus 5 ft./2 levels)
Area: Emanation
Duration: 1 minute/level
Saving Throw: Will Negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

You emit a disruptive field that interferes with the ability of all creatures within to access their ki powers. The field lasts out to the maximum range of the spell. While within the field, a creature must make a will save to be able to use Iaijutsu Focus, gain extra monk damage past 1d3 subdual, or use any ki related powers.

Westenberger's Reflex Dampener
Transmutation
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. plus 5 ft./2 levels)
Duration: 1 minute/level
Saving Throw: Will Negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

One creature in range of the spell suffers a drastic drop in responsiveness. While this spell doesn't deal any damage, the target does lose use of uncanny dodge, evasion, and improved evasion.

You sound like a wizard frustrated by getting damage spells to stick...or who has to deal with a lot of monks and rogues!

All in all, though, I like these spells. Particularly the magic item dampening one. Have to playtest the balance, but it's high enough level that it's probably pretty close to target.

I don't think monk damage comes from ki at all; it's not negated by an antimagic field or wearing armor.

I guess you are right. *edit the above post*

To quote the PHB, page 39:

"Monks are highly trained in fighting unarmed..."

[edited for grammatical errors and change to Ki dampener.]

Ki dampener

Some clarification as to what ordinary monk abilities are impacted would be nice here. Does this spell ONLY work if I'm using Oriental Adventures or similar?

Also, depending on the type of campaign, the ki spell should work like the reflex damper (single target). But as I said, depending. Could be that the spell is useful so rarely that the area effect is not a prob. :)

Take it as you will, or your DM will. We play a horrendous bastardization of every D&D 3e book printed, so Ki Dampener is most effective in OA.

I say it dampens: Wis bonus to AC; Stunning Attack; Slow fall; Wholeness of Body; Leap of the Clouds; Ki Strike; Abundant Step; Diamond Soul (if the caster succeds the penetration check); Quivering Palm; Empty Body; and Perfect Self.

Die, Bruce-Lee worshipping-Dragonball Z-Tshirt-wearing bastard!
