D&D 4E 3.Xe + 4e Hybrid System

I know, it can't be said if it will even be possible, but has anyone considered the idea?

Since the 3.5 SRD will be sticking around and we know there will be a 4e OGL (and hopfully SRD, haven't seen any confirmation on this yet), it would be easy to cherry pick the stuff you like most out of them each and run with it.

I'm thinking about this, is anyone else?

Take the few actually warranted mechanical fixes and toss their idiotic changes to planar mechanics and outsiders? Sounds like a plan to me.

Just the same.

And keep the good art (the one I like only) from the new books.

We need to have a huge "hybridization" thread in house rules or somewhere when the time comes... I'd be very interested in this as well.

If I choose not to convert from 3.5 to 4th edition, my house rules will probably be something like that (as will many other people's, I'm sure). Even if 4th edition isn't my cup of tea, it sounds like there's enough tweaks that at least some of the more interesting rules will get added to my 3rd edition game. And, if there are enough people doing that, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3rd party publisher release a system using 4th edition rules but with a 3rd edition feel, in a similar way that Castles & Crusades presents an AD&D feel with the d20 system.

If I had the resources to get something like that published I would do it.
Why not work on it as an enworld project and try to get it published as a PDF first then a Hard copy?
A revision not a new edition, I said it awhile back, why not try it?

I guess that the problem would be that we wouldn't agree what to put in that version, it seems to have as many definitions of how that revision should be done as gamers. Put two D&D fans in a room and you will get three different opinions... :D

But that could be a good thing, we could have four or five different hybrids, more or less compatible, and everybody would take their favorite, the one most suited to their tastes. A bit like 3e : 3e, 3.5, AU, Iron Heroes, C&C...

At this point, I think it's impossible to say if such a thing would be feasilble, or even desirable.

When the time comes, I may well be interested in such a thing, though.
