360 or upgrade…

GTA, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry 4 and God of War are already five titles that strongly interest me, compared to Oblivion alone on the 360. That's enough. For the rest, the two consoles have lots of equivalent titles; fighting games, mecha games, whatever, there are good ones either way.

But ultimately, it's largely a matter of taste. I merely urge people to consider both options, form an unprejudiced opinion, and be wary of fanboys. Add Revolution to the mix as well, if you want to be better than me! ;)

The question of 360 or upgrade? I'd probably upgrade (I actually just did last month instead of getting a 360). Why? The games. There aren't any that I *need* to play on the 360. Not right now. The only game that really caught my eye was Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and when it got delayed until March I immediately spent the Xbox360 money on PC upgrades (another gig of Ram & a new video card). Now I have a much better PC and can still play Oblivion when it comes and eventually Halo 3. So unless there are some killer titles for the Xbox 360 (which I'm sure there will be down the line) that won't be on the PS3 (or even the PC) it may be some time until I get one.

It's all about the games. There are many games that are on the slate for the PS3 that I know I'll be getting. Can't say the same for the 360. :( I was really looking forward to getting one soon, too.

I'll add one amendment to my post that I just remembered -

I probably will get a 360, right around a price drop or sometime in the early Spring. The main reason would be that it makes the Xbox games look and play a bit better in many cases. I've read about faster load times, Halo 1/2 in HD and generally better looking graphics (less jaggies and "staircase" effects). Not worth $400 right now but it will be later.

Have you seen the PS3's controller?
No... and neither has anybody else.

Sony has said that the boomerang they showed at E3 was just one of the prototype models, and is not what the final version will necessarily look like.

So what's it got? God of War will surely re-appear on the PS3, but I can't think of anything else. SquareEnix is working with Microsft now, so likely both systems will get the Final Fantasy franchise.
Probably a lot more JRPGs, if history tells us anything (and if the current introduction of the 360 in Japan is any indication). I suspect that the current upcoming RPGs for the 360 will be a flash in the pan after the PS3's introduction and the installed base numbers become more clear.

Overall, I'd say upgrade the computer. The mod option is likely reason enough.

MS really should have held up the Japanese launch for DOA4; the Japanese launch lineup was PS2-launch level unimpressive (well, PS2-North American launch level unimpressive; no one but Sony could get away the degree of suckitude that was the PS2 Japanese launch lineup). Still, there should be some very good games showing up over the next few months.

The Japanese release wasn't helped by the 360 not being backwards compatible with most Xbox games. I think the list they released showed a total of 12 games it was backwards compatible with. Anything else and you were out of luck. The good news is even a week later if you want a 360 in Japan, they are easy to find.

It was closer to 200 games.
