3eRevised Hold Spells: Lower Level?

Merlion

First Post
We know that the various Hold spells are going to allow a save every round in the revised rules, and we know that some few spells are changing level.
Does anyone think maybe Wizards would be getting Hold Person as a 2nd level spell and maybe Hold Monster will bump down to 4th?

Hm... I don't know. I could see a Hold Person as 2nd level with the save each round - but it would be a very powerful spell (Hold Person, good timing, a coup de grace, and there goes the foe in the first round). I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed 3rd level.

Its already second level, as is, for Clerics. A save every single round is a big hit in power....many times the victim will be free before the duration expires.
And I am at least as interested in Hold Monster maybe being 4th. Especialy since that whole coup de grace thing is not as big a deal with hold monster...many things cant be coup de graced

There aren't many things that are immune to CdG that aren't immune to Hold. A wizard using Mind Blank, an arcanoloth, or a fighter wearing fortification armor are examples, but there aren't many others.

Hmm I thought if a thing was immune to crits its immune to coup de grace

But apart from that whats your opnion on the topic?

I think that the "some few" thing might play a part in this. Mind you I am only guessing, but going on what Ed Strak said on his Mortality Rdio interview, spells would be adjusted in what they do rather than moved from one level to another. If we know that the Hold Spells are being adjusted, I doubt they are also being moved. Mind you that is just my feeling from what he said, and none of that was specific. *shrug*

You might be right but let me just say I am going to be very annoyed if they reduce a spells power considerably and leave it in the same spell level.
