Yeah, IMHO 3rd edition brought many 1st edition and 2nd edition players back together.... I fear 3.5 will split the community again.

>>I try to avoid dungeons, and I have never seen a gnome PC in a good 25 years of gaming.

>>send them against two evil elven doublesword fighters, both of them related to him/her, but are under the influence of some malicious power.

>>Nobody would think to multi class in our games without a legit roleplaying reason, and never for just one level.

• How much did it cost to make a player play a bard?
>>We get the occasional bard with no payments made…

• Ever noticed that dwarven wizards seem to be more common than elven ones now?
>> Still haven’t seen a dwarf wizard in game as a PC or NPC.

• Recovered from your lumbago after carrying the folders with your houserules back to your room?
>>>What house rules? The book we had in 2E is filed away. So, we don't need to lug it around.

• Gnomes suck. Kobolds rule.
>> I nearly took out a high level, high magic party with one beholder and his kobold minions, who were armed only with shortbows.

• Have you noticed how many guys who never used even a bastard sword in 2nd edition now find the greatsword much more stylish?
• Same for the greataxe?
>> We had lots of bastard and two handed sword users in 2E.

• CR = Cruelty rate (against DMs)?
>> Well, for figuring XP, it was not too easy at first. But, I still just eyeball encounters ahead of time to see if it “feels right”

  You mean someone takes 2 weapon fighting?

  How can you GET them to multiclass?
  
• How much did it cost to make a player play a bard?
  
  I bribe them with extra goodies if the Don't play a Bard.

  Wizards? How much do you bribe them to play one?

  We don't allow houserules; the second sourse d20 stuff is bad enough.

  Shessh, most of my people want longswords and large shields.

  It can be tricky. Annoying littlse system for figuring out exp, but good for balancing encounters.

Actually enforce multiclass penalties? Then if they still want to 'roleplay' one level of ranger for their rogue, they also have to 'role-play' a half-elf (since that's all they're good for), or play a human rogue with no low-light vision, ability mods, or any other tasty rogue-benefits. Or they can role-play slow advancement as an elf.
