3rd edition conversion of Return to the Tomb of Horrors

I was wondering if there is a conversion of Return to the Tomb of horrors somewhere on the web. The adventure, when I first bought it, struck me as being one of the greatest I've ever read (mind you, I haven't played it yet, not even in 2nd edition). I'm going to run Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil for my next campaign and thought it would be great to continue with Return to the Tomb of Horrors (if, of course, the players survive the temple). I've read the conversion of the Winter Wight (or whatever, can't remember the exact name of the monster) in the Epic Handbook, but I thought it turned out way stronger than it was in the Return to the tomb of horrors.

um, ask the players for their characters and rip them up? It's pretty deadly. ;)

Overin the rules forum there is a sub forum for conversions, there might be one there.

There was someone who posted here a few years ago (don't know if the person still does) that was running a conversion of it (I want to say the poster's name was James, maybe? Ugh, memory, it's the first thing to go). I think the poster had converted it all himself.

You might check Bruce Cordell's website at brucecordell.com, or WOTC, as they probably still own the property.

Bruce writes great stuff. I agree, it's one of the greatest. I think it also qualifies as one of the deadliest. :)

I haven't been much help, sorry.

There's a conversion here http://www.enworld.org/forums/local_links.php?action=jump&id=275 in the conversion library. The conversions in here of both Acererak and the winter wights are lower levels than the official ELH conversions.

Best of luck... and be prepared for a high body count. I'm just about to finish (next session) what your'e about to start ... not that any of the characters who started the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil have survived to the end of the Return to the Tomb of Horrors.

Most players on on their 3rd or 4th characters (at least) by now.

All of the monsters have been converted, thier is even the blackfire spell in the new complete arcana, don't forget the blackball and the vampire mage Fearnfear,

Mostly you looking at changes to how traps work and weather you allow taking a 20 on search (personaly if you miss by more than five in my game you spring the trap).

I have run this game 4 times and it is still the best adventure ever hands down. I had a party of really experiance players make it all the way through and finish it they lost only one party member (Acererack's wheel of fortune) up until they fought Acererack (they lost two to Acererack)

Note: many people died but few could not be ressurected.

I did have a Total Party Kill with the three vampires in the swamp though.

Its tough but it's fair and sometimes you need to be lucky which is about as fair as life.

It was said in DUNGEON this is Bruce R. Cordell's Masterpiece. I agree.

I have a ton of notes I could post... I ran this recently, though heavily tweaked. I don't have one conversion document, I have a bunch of various files I used as required.

My party was just edging into epic at the start of RttToH, and they got there a lil differently than the standard way. Nonetheless, it was a brutal module, and I pulled no punches. I've never told a group they beat the game- other than when the pcs came to a stunning and complete victory over RttToH. And I'm a killer dm.

My players rock.

Warrior Poet - I think you are referring to James MacMurray (sp?) story hour. That was a blast to read. Methinks I should seek it out for a rereading.

Is this a dead link?

I would be really grateful if you would post some of the notes.
