You did miss something.

Class and race creation is consider something completely different from character creation.

Yep. Didn't expect that either myself. But I hadn't been imagining the business restrictions of the GSL that they do change the equation. Btw creating a full class 30 levels worth power list and testing it seems pretty daunting -much harder than 3e. But perhaps some fans will be able to manage it some time passing by.

Hmm...

Monkey Grip: Two handed melee weapons that a warrior is proficient in may be used in one hand at a -1 to attack and a -2 to damage.

Provoke: When you are attacked you may mark the enemy, giving a -2 to attack targets other than you, only one mark per enemy, new mark supersedes old ones.

Combat Challenge: When an adjacent enemy shifts, make an
immediate melee basic attack against them.

Combat Superiority: +2 to opportunity attacks and enemies hit
stop moving if a move provoked the attack.

That was fun :)

I was thinking about this last night, and I thought I'd like to see some classes that fill some different roles than what we've seen in the past. The new methodology presented in 4e will allow for some interesting twists in that regard.

The new roles include: Defender, Striker, Leader, Controller.

I think it would be fun to see some interesting combinations of these things that would include:
Striker/Defender
Striker Leader
Striker/Controller

Defender/Striker
Defender/Leader
Defender/Controller

Leader/Striker
Leader/Controller
Leader/Defender

Controller/Striker
Controller/Leader
Controller/Defender

I leave to people much more creative than me to extrapolate some cool twists on these baselines. For example:

Striker/Controller: These are DPS dependent characters, who do so through AoE effects, that at times can have effects that slow or hinder your opponents. I'm picturing a Diablo 2 paladin here, with some melee abilities, that really result cool and interesting AoE effects.

I can actually imagine by Gunslinger hope for a class be a good Striker/Controller. He can engage a single-target for a fair amount of damage with both revolvers or also essentially deal out AoE effects by firing at various targets at once.

Cover Fire Gunslinger Attack 3
You send a hail of fire to keep the heat off your boys.
Encounter * Weapon
Standard Action Ranged weapon
Target: Area Burst 2.
Attack: Ranged +6 vs Ref
Effect: Enemies in area are immobilized.
Miss: Slowed.

I would be happy with the monk and the druid, my favoriute 3.x classes. Monk for the mechanics/fluff, druids for the fluff (not the broken mechanics).

So, here's a question.

Clearly people want 3rd party publishers to give them the 3e classes they like.

But there's also the threat that the 3rd Party publishers just convert the 3e class to 4e without, well, branching out.

I certainly don't want a monk that's really weak like in 3e. Or a bard that can't do anything well. Or a druid that breaks everyone's back, etc. If a 3rd party is going to make something, I'd really like them to take it in a different direction, rather than just re-hash the old one.

Pretty much as soon as I get done reading the three core books, I will be working on: FFT/FFTA 4e and World of Warcraft 4e. Yay. =)

*Unfettered/Swashbuckler for sure.
*Elementalists :)...I think these would be the ideal controllers, rather than strikers though. I mean manipulating the air and earth, especially, is controlling right there. Maybe water and fre strikers?
*Totem warriors...or barbarians more in alignment with a totem. Shamans too on that note.
*Shamans or others that draw power from the spiritworld. (Could see a dwarven priest of sorts here drawing power from their ancestors).
*Druid specialists (like someone else). In 3e we did this - all were nature casters of a sort. Druid was animal focused, Shugeja = elemental, Spirit shaman = spirits, Greenbonds (MCAE) = plant.
*Necro for bad guys.
