D&D 4E 4e Battle Tactic: Murder by Pinball

Doesn't the core tenant behind the rules of exception based design preclude the application of rules designed for one purpose to something else?

Going prone when knocked into hindering terrain is an exception for natural obstacles and doesn't apply to a spell unless the exception is specifically mentioned. Wall of fire needlessly confuses the topic due to the examples given, one could instead use 'freezing cloud'

Maybe it's just me, but I'm under the impression that pushes and pulls must be used to move the target to the farter/closer square possible, always (i.e. in a straight line towards/away from you or the origin of the effect), and not in zig-zagging patterns.

I thought that was what slides were for. :)

It's on page 1 one of the thread dude. Reproduced below.

If you're pulling, each square must move them closer to you.

If you're pushing, each square must move them further from you.

If you're sliding, there is no restriction on the direction of movement.

If I push you NE-NW-NE-NW-NE, each square has moved you further from me; the restriction of the push has been met.

Enabling zig zag super pushes. Murderball is alive an well.

It just says that each new square must be further away than the previous one. So zig-zag pushes are possible assuming the foe just keeps moving away (see my pic on the previous page if you have no already done so). The rules don't explicitly come out and say that he must necessarily be moved "as the crow flies", so to speak.:)
