4E character archive

Well, that was fun

I was thinking a 4E character archive might be a good idea. Folks could post the characters they've created using the Character Builder (the actual saved files, so others can load them into the builder).

I realise that you can just hit the "Quick Character" button for an level/race/class combo and get something instantly with the Builder, but people are going to be able to create much better builds.

It would be useful for people who quickly need an optimized archer, or what-have-you. Each could also be accompanied with notes explaining tactics so people can get the most from those characters.

I know some people don't really care about optimization; others do. This would be for them.

That would be neat, hmm... There could be a "Character Development" type one as well. Various times there will be people saying, "how can I represent such and such a character". So there could be more RP-oriented save files to give as examples for that. With the notes being not on why such and such is optimized but why such a Power with such and such part of the character concept, etc.

sounds like a good idea.
just be sure to have a place for descriptions with each file so it's not just some nameless file. but the author can write "battle cleric level 10" and so on so that we know what we're looking for.

That is a great idea!

Does anybody know if the 'home rules' get carried along with the character file.

If not where do they get stored... an archive of those would be cool.

That's an awesome idea.

Maybe a couple new forums, people can post their description and something about why they built the character, background, etc. And then attach the file zipped up.

Very cool.

Let me tell you about my character:

Might have its appeal.

I remember all the 3E character optimization advice - imagine now everyone loading the character down to see the build and make their suggestions based on that. ;)

Well, we'll see how that will pull off.

Isn't the file effectively some XML? What we might want is a CSS or something like that that can be used with the file to create a message board friendly format...

A very cool idea!

I would find useful both the optimized characters and the "Character development" idea suggested by Fallen Seraph.

OK, I've set up an area in the Downloads Section. It would probably help if we came up with a standard formt for the description to help people find what they're looking for (I think the most useful info would be a brief description of what that character is designed to do well).

Feel free to include RP and combat builds in the same area for now. We can split 'em off later if necesary.

C'mon, guys! We have a grand total of two entries so far, one of which was my own! I'm sure a community of 80,000 registered members can do better than that! :D
