[4e] Dark Water Campaign (in The Last Lands) [MY PLAYERS SKIP]

Btw, I completely agree with your campaign design approach. I pretty much had the same revelation. Previously, I had created my homebrew from the top-down and it was a lot of work, most of it unused. Based on ideas from the 4E DMG, I've pretty much done what you did except took one step further by "stealing" as much as possible. I'm not planning on publishing anything so I figured, why do I need to spend all my time creating everything? I'm taking as much plot, names, etc. from various sources as I can. If the players recognize them, so much the better because they'll have a natural affinity and be more comfortable, thus likely aiding the fun level.

Keep this in mind, though I understand one of your goals conflicts with this (you want to use it in publications). You can certainly steal some plot ideas, twisting them for your use. I definitely suggest you rent 4400, though, especially if your players have watched it.

Thanks again for the feedback ;)

I do _not_ intend to have this published at all.

This setting (Last Lands) is simply for me and my players. I do not assume anyone else would want to use it, just like I don't want to use anyone else's setting. I do like to present it well though, so it may seem that this is the goal - but I am a web designer/developer/graphics guy so I tend to dress this stuff up a bit.

Also, I like to surprise my players, and though if I copied a lot of stuff they wouldn't notice it, I would know and would not feel then that the setting is mine really. There are influences of course, there is no getting around that, but I have TOO MANY ideas often enough, so I might as well make use of em.
