D&D 4E 4e Drow predictions?

I could see them doing something lame like saying drow were simply a grouping of elves who worshipped Lolth when she was a "good" goddess. They refused to leave her when she got punished so were turned into drow. They probably won't even be CE, as we knew it. Putting a happy stamp on the dark elves.
What are you basing these fears on, if I may ask?

Just the direction the drow have taken.

Players want to play them. A game designer can't sit back and not acknowledge it. Yes, they could do nothing and leave game groups to decide that all drow in their game are that one drow who wasn't born evil. Works for me, though it is funny if you think about it. Or they could morph them into some misunderstood race or some sort of shade of gray one.

3e (or at least the Realms, maybe even back in 2e) took the steps to change Lolth's background. Created a good drow goddess for good drow. And simply the fact that 4e flavor appears to be different than past ones. I'm all for erasing as much of 2e's influences on the game, but 1e's was the flavor that got the many things D&D has influenced noticed.

I was just looking through the new D&D Minis release "Desert of Desolation" and I noticed there were 4 Drow related minis in the line.

This set of minis has been advertised as a 4e preview because "most" of the monsters will appear in the first 4e Monster Manual.

So I'm wondering if Drow are going to get their own section of the new MM and if we'll have different builds, as opposed to a flat race that we have to add class levels to (like in 3e).

Drow were mentioned in a blog post about the MM in relation to an appendix which concerned monsters which were avaliable as player races, alongside Aasimar, Gnomes etc., so it seems likely they'll be 'built' in a similar way to pcs, or that at least that option will be avaliable...

EDIT: what makes me curius is the statement that all but one of the DoD minis are in the MM... does that include the race-based figures? Which one is the missing entry? Perhaps the Goliath archer? Or would that not count? Hmmm...

Drow are simply too popular as a PC race. They WILL be an option, and likely an ECL 0 option with as much custom content as any other standard race.

Heck, I think Drow could use a make over. Currently, Drow are very polarized. You either have the debased baby eaters and their insectoid goddess...or you have a prancing, frolicking good Drow who worships a giggling faerie princess that just LOVES to dance and sing.

Give me a frickin' break, for crying out loud!

I liked the Kingdom of Kalimar approach to Dark Elves. They were sneaky, conniving, and self-serving as a whole...with individuals straying onto both sides of the spectrum (downright evil and wiggly good). This creates a much more playable Dark Elf.

I predict that Drow will become bikers. Drenched in leather and chains, driving around in spider-like vehicles. They're loud, they're proud, and they will STOMP YOU.

Lolth is now a stone cold biker with a bandana and an eyepatch. Rhaar.

You know, I actually like the idea of Lolth as Kali.

And drow could be that group in India that loved to strangle people with scarves.
Damn here I go trying to be funny and I actually give somebody a good idea.

I'll admit being an elf-hater I basically filed the serial numbers of Kali with the worst aspects played up and used her as the mother goddess of the elven pantheon. With her children based variously on individuals from politics and history known for Bad Things. There was the on based on Caligula, another from Commudus, others based on more recent religious and political figures all known for cruelty and debasement. All done in the Indian multi-armed style.
