D&D 4E 4E: Manufactured Excitement

This is an interesting point that a lot of people don't consider. If I'm going to spend money on gaming books, I'm much rather spend them on a new game than on another 3.5 supplement.

Okay then ... I like the sound of 4e because it's another step in the development of D&D, and I am curious to see where it leads.

Before I leave this earth, there will have been several more editions of D&D, and I will receive every one of them with intense interest just to see what the game develops into.

And also buying the core books for 4e is an insignificant expenditure for me, so why not join the fun?

And contrary to what some other people believe, it is possible to be excited about 4e, while at the same time being excited about the 3.5e campaign I'm running, that will continue after 4e hits the shelves.

But honstly ... I'm that kind of person. I get excited about interesting things happening. And a new release of D&D is pretty interesting, judging from the fact that even people who don't like it want to discuss it.

If MerricB wants to do the Snoopy Dance and others want join in, what is the harm in that?

It is not like there is a finite pool of enthusiasm and that if MerricB is giddy, then someone else is going without because MerricB has taken more than his share.

If you are bothered by the hype and the enthusiasm about 4e, stop reading the 4e threads then. I am sure the Razz would like someone to comiserate with.

Personally, lilke PirateCat, I have found each new edition better than the last. So, while I am not doing the Snoopy Dance (I don't dance well), I am looking forward to the new edition. A lot of others are as well. Some aren't. That is life.

iPhone had similar hype and people rushed to get it untested, now the gripes and lawsuits are starting to crop up mere months later. Hmm can we sue for our 3.5 money back?

The lawsuits are frivolous and the gripes overblown.

I would love to see someone try to sue WotC for dropping the price of the PHB to 15 dollars a few months after release.

I STILL find it funny that people hate Wizards for trying to make money. It boggles the mind. I saw a lot of the same vitriol directed against Blizzard back when I played WoW.

I guess I'm just not the rebel-vagabond-samurai-warrior that you are two. I just flail about, my limbs independent of my brain, mindlessly awaiting the latest out of Renton.

I've got positive expectations of 4e mechanics because I've really liked the things they've done recently that they say are a 'significant preview' of 4e. I'm completely unconcerned with core cosmology changes because I play in Eberron, and that's not changing. And I'm not overy concerned with some fluff/style changes mostly because while I don't like giving love to the angsty-types, they play D&D too, and I can keep evil paladins and any tieflings out of my game easily enough (and based on what I know of the guys I play with, I won't have any problems with them showing up as other people's PCs in the more normal situation where I'm not the DM).
