D&D 4E 4E Modern

Honestly I was not a big fan of 4E until Essentials and Gamma World, and they really showed me the potential. Plus it seemed like a gap that needed filled (That's what she said... God, I watch too much Office...), and I had been in some playtests for other modern options and they just didn't feel right.

Thank you for the corrections... and they will be corrected in the next post! And I guess technically if you are using a quarterstaff made out of a lead pipe... :^)

I actually did have a question and your post reminded me of it. Has anyone actually tried this out in play yet? My group has been doing a sci-fi thing in it for the past few weeks and they think it works well, but I would like to know if anyone else has done anything with it and how it has worked for them.

Also, I wanted to know if anyone wanted me to post my stuff for the sci-fi campaign here when I am finished with it. Its very specific to the setting, but it has some alien races, weapons and armor, and will have rules for cybernetics when I am finished with them. It should also have one or two psionic careers.

Thanks for this. I'd love to play a 4e Modern game. I see great possibilities for a "Two-Fisted Shooter", with the following power:

John Woo's Ubiquitous Leap
Standard / Ranged 10
DEX vs. REF
3W+REF
- Character moves 2, followed by a leap covering a distance up to the characters movement-2, which counts as a shift. At any time during this leap he may make an attack against a single opponent, while looking totally awesome in his awesomness.

Thank you, and I actually based the Gunslinger class on John Woo heroes more than anything else. :)

I actually had a similar power in my initial draft called "Gun Fu," but for some reason I dropped it in the final draft. I think it ended up becoming the "Wire-Fu" power that the Martial Artist career has. Just for you I'll add it back in.

Here is the updated file with that power and the corrections that TheClone pointed out.

One minor thing: Is there a chance to not use "scribd" for distributing the files? It doesn't work with Opera. Maybe I could sponsor some webspace, if that is what you need. Just wanted to ask.

Indeed, I actually started using it because I posted this over at RPG.net too and they are weird about files sizes for posts. Here I can actually post the file directly if that works. Speaking of which, here is a version with some minor corrections, one of which I feel embarrassed I missed the first time around. I forgot to note that some weapon types target defenses other than AC, so that is corrected in this version.

And is there interest in the sci-fi stuff when I have it done?

I figured I will post this too for anyone who wants it. This is a slightly modified version of the campaign document for the sci-fi thing we are running. I made the specific races into some generic alien races, there are three new careers including two psychic careers, weapons and armor, and basic rules for cybernetics that treat them more like permanent magic items.

I just glanced at it, and haven't read the thread, and not to be a wet blanket, but, JIMHO...

I never liked the extremely generic 'Strong' Hero, Fast Hero, etc aproach of d20 modern. It seemed boring and bland. Why not 'Action Hero,' 'Strong-Jawed Hero,' 'White Hat,' 'Badass Anti-Hero' or stuff like that... ?

I was going for the same format as the old d20 Modern when I was working on it, so that's what stuck. I agree that the names used aren't that exciting, but they work as basic descriptors and serve their function. It's easy enough to change them to something else if you prefer, but I hope that's not the only thing that keeps someone from checking it out. I would rather know elements in the system itself don't work or need changing so it is more playable and fun.
