D&D 4E 4e Monster Manual excerpt

So which one is a better name?

War devil or Malebranche (pronounciation anyone)?

While Malebranche is from Dante's Inferno, I doubt many gamers recognize that.

As for the ice/bone/bearded naming convention, it's been a long time since I cracked open the 1E MM but I thought those names came from 1st edition?

It was 2E that gave them other names in response to the "we can't call them demons".

Seems like the era of ten thousand immunities is over.
Even though it is old news by now, I still clap my hands every time I talk about it.

And that name on the war devil stinks. The naming conventions of 4th ed continue to blow chunks. Next we'll have sword devils, mace devils and to feed them all, the evil cook devil.
Am I the only one that read something else?

Yeah, lets burn fire elementals

1. You can only have one victim kissed at a time. Kissing all the PCs is useless.
2. It states the succy has to kiss a victim once a day to sustain the effect. In all likelyhood there is a universal rule that states Charm effects wear off after a day.

It would perhaps be a good thing if you read more carefully and didn't condemn 4e so quickly. No save was omitted because it isn't needed.

I missed the "only one kiss victim". But for an adventure, being unable to attack a monster for 1 day is very long. Of course that only comes into play when you don't fight to the death or use tactics which seperates the group.

Makes sense to me.

Yeah, I like how powerful it is and that it will fade after a day. I can imagine the Succubus rogue/assasin using a PC to cover her escape out of a window and all the rest of the players holding back and trying to grapple the guy to the ground, then keeping an eye on him the next day. :D.

Never liked/used a Succubus but I am very tempted to write up a reoccurring NPC/villian using one now.

Yep, and in 1st Ed, Vrock was an example name of just one Type I demon, Hezrou Type II, Glabrezu Type III, Nalfeshnee Type IV, Marilith Type V, and Balor Type VI.

Actually it isn't powerful at all. Unless there are additional information about charm effects the only thing the kiss does is that the character interposes himself when he is standing directly next to the Succubus and he won't attack her.
Other than that the victim is free to do what he wants including killing the Succubus minions or bosses.

Yes, let's toss a Pit Fiend into the sun and have it come out unharmed on the other side...

AFAIK, we have no living flame creatures in this world, so how can you claim that it is unrealistic that such a creature wouldn't be hurt by a stronger flame?

Wait, don't answer, because last time, it was a 10-pager as I recall, and quite boring.

The closest thing we can try is to analyze what happens if we attack a fire with a bigger fire.

...

I can't believe I actually suggested that.
