I've now heard this from seven different people in various chat rooms, forums, blogs, etc. just in the last few hours, all as a result of the character sheet preview.

Let's get some perspective, people.

2.x power cards

2.x power cards

3.x power cards

OMG! D&D has been MTG all along!

It's obviously a conspiracy!

Sigh.

I remember the 2.x Wizard spell cards and used 'em. I think they're the reason I bemoaned the 3.x nerfing of Tenser's Floating Disc (long story, involving an enemy sneak thief and a wall of thorns....)

I Am Attempting To Follow Your Recommendations But The Baby I Have Seems To Be "wet" And Will Not Ignite. Please Advise.

Thank You, -- N

Your husband is not an actual baby.

If you must, drown him in gasoline and then ignite.

I happen to love how flexable and deep MtG is. If D&D becomes similar to MtG, so long as they never use the word "plansewalker" or us a "manna" system, it will probably make me happy.

Sorry, had to laugh about that one. OMFG!!!! The end is near!

I remember when 3.0 came out and my friends were spouting off about how with the recent aquisition of TSR WOTC stood to make the game more the M:TG. I calmly pulled out my wizard and priest cards from 2e and said, "what makes you think I have not already sucked you in?"

LOL.

Seriously though, have you not all seen how closely the mechanics resemble M:TG since the introduction of 3.x? One of the major changes to "slip" by was the introduction of the second person POV for the instructions.

Instead of 2e's:

"This spell makes the character/creature invisible until ..." 3rd person... why? Something to do with the fear that the player will accidentally BELIEVE the effect will happen

we now have 3.x's:

"This spell makes you invisible until..." Second person. Nice. No bones about it. Seems like it was read off a M:TG card.

Couple that with feats that act like power cards... now we are speaking about getting closer.

To tell you the truth, we have been playing this way for 8 years now, including having a revision to the ruleset. Certain powers have been "banned" from play, as they were shown to be too powerful. Rules have been re-written to balance play.

All I can say is that I hope that there is not a new expansion out every 6 months that will totally mess everything up... otherwise.

Vive-le 4:TG!!!!! :melee:

More seriously, if D&D adopted MtG terminology, I'd be incredibly happy. MtG is really good about avoiding rules ambiguity, and a lot of their terminology is really intuitive.
