Odd because I would have thought that would be more of an issue in the US Bible belt than other countries.
To be honest, the religious crazies already think D&D is Satan, so you're not really going to gain anything by pandering to them.

Honestly, I agree with Klaus that the PHB cover was by the weakest of the three, when as he says, it should very much have been the strongest. Any new cover seems likely to be better, based on the generally higher quality of most of WAR's work.

As for inappropriate, well, it's vague, but I would think it meant "unappealling" (the Tiefling was certainly "unappealling" to me, just plain unattractive, really, ugly robe, ugly horns, weak look) as opposed to "Too satanic!". Especially given the bloody great demon on the MM. It's not like religious nuts who hate D&D are capable of distinguishing between the PHB and MM now, is it?

I wonder which country is the one that had problems...

I guess it's revenge time for the Americans that are always accused of being the one with the religious nuts... :p

Only if you believe that the cover was changed because of religious nuts, which is a pretty silly belief, given that the MM is unchanged.

It would be nice if the front cover contained a classic party of some kind, ideally in an evocative location.
As long as the "classic" party includes both a tiefling and a dragonborn, I'd be fine with it.
