D&D 4E 4e price increase?

Its just another reason to stick with a system that works just fine.

Here, here... besides anyone who's played 3.5 for any length of time owns more than just three books and that collection is most certainly well over $120.

The old one. Changeling: the Dreaming.

Yes, since it has nothing to do with the new World of Darkness at all.

What I'm saying is that did it fail after the new WOD debuted?

I'm not in the position to know, obviously... It just strikes me though that all of those games are related to games where the edition changed.. Also they ended all of their d20 support stuff didn't they?

No. All three of those lines died between 2001 and 2003. NWoD made it's debut in 2004.

They all died before the nWoD was even announced, so I don't see any indication of that being the case. Each of the lines was moved from the White Wolf imprint to the Arthaus imprint in order to cut costs and try to make each line able to support itself, since the lines weren't making enough money to support their continued publication. After the move, the resulting products sold even less.

Pretty much. I asked Ethan Skemp if there were plans to revive SSS for 4e, and he said there was nothing going on that he could talk about at present.

3e played it smart - bring them in with a low price. 4e could and should take a lesson. All 3 core books could be discounted or just the DMG and MM as loss leaders to make sure DMs are getting a deal and will adopt 4e.

If $105 ($35 per) is accurate, I don't think it will hurt 4e substantially but is surely won't help it along either. It is just one more barrier to adoption.

It is easy enough to crack wise (and that's characterizing some comments charitably) about how it is not much money or that people should save up or that they should get a job or a better one but fact is $105 for the core books will be more than de minimis to some people and they don't need to take "guff" for it from the 4e "autoadoptatons."

On that note, I hope I'll be allowed this comment: watching _some_ of the biggest 4e boosters on this site and how they treat anything but joy at all things 4e - I never, ever want to play D&D with them. Way to represent for 4e!

Well, if they can't afford it, they'd better learn to live without, save up some cash to afford it, or use the SRD. Welcome to capitalism. Enjoy your stay.

Is there a point to this, other than trying to ruffle some feathers?

D&D is the price of a family meal, or a few movies, or a couple of video games so it's something trivial to buy...if you are able to routinely go and do those things.

Just for a comparison, a set of D&D books would be around $1,400.00 Mexican Pesos right now, in the local Comic Book Store... Thats about 3-6 times the price of a family meal (4 people) in a decent restaurant.

Still, I am gonna save for 4ed, at least a players handbook to check it and see if its worth the money for the full upgrade.

Needless to say, my wife is none too excited about it, but [shrugs] I'll make it up to her...

$35 is not an unreasonable price. In fact, if you don't live in the USA, you may well end up paying less for the books than you did for 3.5e!

I don't think this is true. The strength of currencies like the Canadian and Aussie dollar are not transalting to the sale price. We've been over the why's and such in other threads. IIRC Melbournes FLGS was selling the 3.0 books for $30.00 Aus. I guarantee we will not be paying less than this when 4.0 hits our shores dispite our apparent parity with the US dollar.

I said 3.5e (with the US$30 price), not 3e.
