Of course he can have their (or Hasbro's) PR team contact the Colbert Report or Comedy Central, but by posting it in his blog, we're now all beginning to talk about it.

Exactly. This looks like the start of some sort of viral marketing campaign, intended to draw interest in an already planned episode or to drive Colbert's folks into agreeing to it (once they see that it has been a hot topic in the blogosphere). Either way, this seems like something Colbert would totally be into.

I gave a call down to Comedy Central and got put through to the Colbert Report. They are on hiatus so I left a message with Andy's info :)

Also sent Andy an e-mail/posted comments on the blog with all the contact info I found on Google :)

I'm surprised that Andy has to go through his blog though. I would think that Hasbro's PR department has some contacts he could use. They're a huge corporation and their properties like Transformers and GI Joe are really hot in the entertainment industry right now.

I don't think big corporations work that way. I'm willing to bet that the WotC 4e team can only dream they had the resources of Hasbro PR at their disposal.

I agree, Colbert Report is a small outfit from what I can see. Now when you deal with Hollywood stars or entertainers, they have managers that you work through (one of the perks of running an anime convention is you get to see this stuff) before you can get in touch with them.

Colbert Report is a popular show but its not like Stephen is a highly payed Hollywood type.

Plus I am sure that although Andy Collins is a great guy, he doesn't have his own PR department :)

I take exception to that, and I'd report this as being un-American :uhoh: ! Mr. Colber(t) is more than some high paid Hollywood type. He'd be running for the presidency of South Carolina right now if it weren't for all you nay-sayers.

Anyone who can make idle quotes about Greyhawk on TV and face down the America's BEAR threat is alright by me.

c.i.d.

Yeah, it took about 3 years to get hasbro to approve small scale plastic toys for D&D, [D&D Miniatures]

Colbert also spoke at that dinner with the President way back when. He's quite more popular than his mere show. Of course they thought Colbert would play nice and he didn't. So this stunt of Andy's could blow up in Wizard's face too.

Yeah, I would expect that giving Colbert a PHB would result in the show somehow making fun of D&D.
Heaven forbid. D&D is, after all, serious business.

They did a brief tribute to Gary Gygax when he passed, and Colbert is quite open with his geek roots. He had Joe Quesada as his guest once. This is not a far-fetched idea.

Maybe they could arrange it to occur when Vin Diesel is a guest? Celebrity nerds unite!
