What can you do while prone?

Can you still use any of your powers? or can you only make base melee attacks?

Can you go total defense before you stand up? to help avoid getting pummeled by attacks of opportunity?

You grant combat advantage to everyone, but are -2 to hit for ranged attacks from people not next to you.

You can use any of your powers, but are at -2 to hit with them.

You can stand up with a move action. Standing up doesn't provoke, although some monsters do have abilities that may trigger off you standing up.

You can crawl away at half move, but can't shift.

a group of use were digging through the DMG and the PHB for the ruling on if getting up provokes an attack of opportunity. any chance you can reference the page and what guide that ruling is in?

It does not. There's a very specific list of what provokes opportunity attacks on page 290. Getting up is not on the list.

I would add that it's a nice, short, and easy to remember list.

Though this does bring up a small peeve I have with the books. WotC needs to learn to put in a decent index!!

What is there is not bad, but it could be lots better, to make finding these kind of things easier!

There is one, though it is confusing because it is a robust table of contents (which largely makes indexes redundant). Chapter 9: Combat - Actions in Combat - Opportunity Attacks, p 290.

Of course, for index purists, there is the Index on Page 317, which lists Opportunity Attacks as being discussed on Page 290 as well.

What's funny is that the +2 from combat advantage cancels out the -2 to hit, so there is never any advantage to going prone, not even against ranged enemies.
