D&D 4E 4e Slaughtergarde

Connorsrpg

Adventurer
OK, I am going to use The Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde as the main part of my first heroic tier 4e campaign.

I was wondering whether anyone knew where I could get extra info for this adventure. I have searched Wizards hoping for the maps or other web enhancements, but have found nothing. On their forums I just saw advice on the difficulty of encounters.

So what I was wondering, was...has anyone else started to think of this in terms of 4e OR has anyone ran it before and have some cool 'extras' to go with it.

(I have already mapped out and developed a large section of new setting [has an African feel] for 4e and this valley is the central focus, at least for heroic levels).

Cheers in advance, C

The DM who ran this for me added a whole Were-rat conspiracy in the capital city, including a nice dungeon complex that ran under most the the NE section of the city, and even under the river. Only about 12 or so room, and a couple runs through the sewers, but it was a good addition. In fact I liked it more than some other parts of the actual published stuff.

I ran the first two parts of this module for my group (by the time we got to the third dungeon, we were already in 4e overdrive and haven't been able to concentrate on a 3e game!)

Like the previous poster mentioned, I also ran a wererat mini-adventure in the sewers of the main city. I just threw down some dungeon tiles, goblins, and some wererats at the end... regarding plot, I had a wererat try to assassinate one of the players while they were in a tavern, then when it failed, ran like heck to the sewers with the players in pursuit.

As far as converting to 4e... the main problem you'll have is that the dungeon felt very compact to me. For instance, nearly every room is mapped out as separate encounter, and we're being told in 4e that we should have encounters that spread out over multiple rooms. All of this depends on the level and number of monsters needed, of course.

Also, I have a feeling that 4e Drow will be too high level to run as 2nd or 3rd level monsters, so if you're going to run the module "as is" then you might need to lower the Drow down a few levels from their MM stats, or replace them with a lower level humanoid.

Good luck! I had fun running this module for 3e and I'd be interested in doing it again for 4e.

I ran the entire adventure last year. The best part was an attack on Kel's Rise using Heroes of Battle.

I wrote up lengthy coverage on the campaign for Dave Noonan complete with photos. I'd be happy to share it with you if you like. Just send me a PM with your e-mail.

Thanks people. I feel I am pretty comfortable converting to 4E and am aware of the toughness of encounters, particularly pt3. Just to note I am a very experienced DM.

Regarding the 'closed' encounters of the dungons - I will simply get rid of the silly 'the goblins won't react to noise in room next door, etc'. A very crappy way to keep 3e encounters low in number. When they hear trouble in next room I will mobilise groups and, as suggested, use several rooms for an enconter.

What I am after is actual resources, including maps, extended fluff, town write-ups, etc. Unfortunately Slaughter never received treatment from Wizards on its site like Red Hand of Doom...you know, all NPCs stats, maps, etc.

Thanks heaps Drammatex. This sounds like something I may be after. Unfortunately I cannot PM you?

Any chance I could get you to follow link to KAge website in my sig? On front page is my email address. (Connors/Paul Connolly). If this is too much bother, no worries.

Are people interested in seeing a 4e adaptation of this adventure? (I refrain from calling conversion, b/c I will be changing it to suit my 'African' influenced setting and the history I have developed).

Hey Connorsrpg --

I tried to e-mail you using the address found on that page. I included all the Slaughtergarde info, pics, etc, but the e-mail bounced every time I tried to send it (this was about 2 months ago, as I recall). I tried two or three times -- bounce, bounce, bounce.

[:(]

do you need the entire campaign book? I have the PDF version. If there is a way i can get it to you i will.

just throwing that out there

I'm unfamiliar with slaughtergarde, and I'm looking for a 4E module to run for a bunch of 4E newbies.

I was planning on using Keep on the Shadowfell (yes, I actually went out and spent money on a "learn to play" module even after buying the books ...) but it isn't exactly blowing smoke up my skirt.

Is slaughtergarde much better by comparison? Is the pdf version public domain, and easily accessible?

Or, barring that, what is a strongly-suggested intro 4E module (I want the crowd to have the confidence that this is an "official" module, and not something cobbled together by yours truly, at least not for their first adventure ...)
