So one of the things I think True 20 did great, was got rid of the 3-18 scale.

Never played True20, but if I had a Strength of 3 and it meant I had a +3 to hit and damage, I'm all for it. That makes a lot more sense. I doubt it'll happen, but I would welcome such a change.

how does one have/generate a -2 Str stat?
By reducing your start-at-0 stat by 2. This gives you 2 more bonus points to throw around elsewhere (max. +5 in any).

I mean, how does one roll a -2? Or is it a straight up point-buy system?

While I enjoy RPGs with point-buys, I still prefer my D&D as roll your stats.
You mean you guys don't have people roll 3d6 anymore?
Muh? Um, where did you get that from?

Previous editions of D&D.

The latter.

Previous editions of D&D.
I meant something more like "how did they come to the conclusion that the other people who'd posted in this thread definitely don't use the system they referred to?" or similar.

I'm not familiar with how True 20 does the stats.

You have six stats: Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha.

You have +6 to distribute among them, but none may be higher than +4.

You can gather more positive modifiers by taking negative modifiers to other stats. So if your Cha is -1, you get to distribute +7 instead of +6.

You don't get stat increases at every 4th level, but at more spaced intervals.

You know, doing this would definitely simplify stat blocks.

Heck, I just like the simplification of things.

Sure, the numbers don't sound as 'awesome' or anything but get the game going and make it quick and easy to use.

3-18 means nothing without the funky bits of 1st and 2nd ed.
