4e: The final word

If someone says lets play some D&D, I am thinking either of these things:

-OD&D, RC...., 3rd :yuck:, 4th :slap: :yuck: (This ain't D&D but I expected as much.)

If someone says lets play some AD&D, I am thinking either of these things:

-1st edition, 2nd edition, keep that Player's Options crap the hell away from me.

If someone says lets play some D&D and means something else with small bits of D&D, I am thinking:

:rant::mad::rant::mad::rant::mad::rant: :yawn:

What about when it was still second edition but they decided to do away with the advanced?

I'm so confused.

Also I can't wait until this thread goes away... Everytime I see it I get that song stuck in my head... The finalll countdooowwwnnnn do do dooo doooot dooo doo dooot doot doooot.

What To Do If You Hate 4E

I was going to post in the "Why 4E Won't Last" thread, but it was locked by the time I got around to it. (As it should have been. It was pure flamebait.) ENWorld policy discourages the resurrection of closed threads, so I will not link or quote it here. Suffice it to say, it was hilarious.

Because my sense of humor is trapped in the year 2002, and because I can't help but make lists out of everything, (and because I'm feeling a little bit punchy,) I would like to present the...

Top Ten Things To Do If Your Gaming Group Hates X Edition.

10. Collect baseball cards.

9. Take a pottery class.

8. Your homework.

7. Rent and watch Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of "Slings & Arrows," arguably one of the best network-original television shows of all time.

6. Master the violin.

5. Develop an appreciation for bubble tea.

4. Set up an aquarium.

3. Run for city council.

2. Build a sailboat.

1. Play something else instead.

They didn't ever get rid of "Advanced" they got rid of "2nd Edition" in the title.

The word "advanced" wasn't dropped until 2000 with 3e.

Silly me... I could have sworn they dropped the advanced from the title at one point just before the release of 3e...

They have second edition written all over the inside of those books that do not have the "2nd edition" spelled out logo.

Dungeons & Dragons Archive: Rules Cyclopedia

They did drop the "Advanced", because they brought back D&D in 1991 after the release of 2nd Edition AD&D in 1989

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Archive: Player's Handbook

But prior to the Revised 2nd Edition books from 1996.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Archive: Player's Handbook

So you are right that they dropped the "Advanced" during the lifecycle of AD&D 2nd edition, but it was in fact a compilation version of D&D.

That song makes me think of Arrested Development, which makes me happy. So I don't see the issue there.

I think I figured out what Justanobody is saying. Only the very first edition of D&D is D&D. Everything afterwards is a pale mockery of the first. Also, since they tended to add more to the title, they're not D&D.
No, that can't be it because he keeps referring to RC as D&D. And that was not the same thing as OD&D.

So I guess he's drawing an invisible line between OD&D, BD&D and BECMI/RC on one side, and AD&D 1E and 2E, and D&D 3E, 3.5 and 4E on the other. The first three get to be D&D even though some of them came after AD&D 1E was developed. And despite the fact they were designed by people who did not design OD&D, while AD&D 1E was designed by the man who designed OD&D.

Essentially it boils down to "these are D&D because I say so, and these are not D&D, also because I say so".

This thread needs a serious dose of "all D&D is awesome."

Highlander 2 was a horrible Highlander movie, but it was still a Highlander movie. If I remember correctly, they said that it doesn't take place in the same reality as the others. Then again, none of the Highlander movies, let alone the TV shows, take place in the same reality. Similar, but not the same.
I look forward to the new Highlander that they're doing. It's supposed to be a remake. I think they're trying to restart the series. Which is awesome if done well.

There should have been only one.
