Yeah, KS was like, "I ain't got no plans with a man. This is the 80's and I'm down with the ladies."

That song was probably hitting the charts when we were playing TMNT. I still remember the names of the characters.

Beefeater Ninja Duck of Windsor
Uzi-wielding Ninja Duck
Tony the Hip-Hoppin' Doom-on-Skates Rockin' Tiger

I fondly remember my first Rifts character, a ratling technomage with a badass magic rifle and some cool shadowy armor. He drove an armored dunebuggy, IIRC.

Thing was, the other characters chose O.C.C.'s that started play with either actual tanks or gigantic robot mecha, so the first combat ran like this.

DM: Your scanners pick up a hostile signal. It's about a two miles out and closing.

Me: I drive forward in my magic dunebuggy.

Everybody else: We fire long range SAM missiles in volleys of four (you can't dodge four!) at the bogey.

DM: Yeah, kaboom. The target is down.

I ain't foolin' the combat was over before my character could even see the enemy.

Rifts was massively popular for a while. If 4e can emulate its gonzo OTT coolness but couple that to a rule system that (unlike Palladium's) works it could make D&D even more successful.

What I wouldn't give for a d20/OGL edition of RIFTS... with luck it might even be playable
I don't quite know the story, but I understand there was some extreme nastiness in the past over a D20 conversion. Threats of litigation and such.

Perhaps someone else can link to a thread or article.

Well now, there was no way I could pass this up. Lest we forget that all gnomes have been removed, and now all clerics are going to be Godlings? Because THAT was a balanced race.

Oh, but wait... in D&D races aren't classes... oh wait... it is happening! Soon you'll be telling me that there is a Coalition under the guise of Freedom that is forcing their will upon those less powerful than them... Ok, Ok, I better stop before I offend someone.

If anyone here is serious about a d20 Rifts conversion, PM me.

PS: this thread rules! And yes, Rifts was the immaculate RPG from inception, it didn't even need an editor or proofreader, let alone organization. Who needs such silliness! Certainly not the players who fled in droves over the years but still get nostalgic over the setting. /rant.

I can't belive no one mentioned this yet:

Each PHBx will add to the game's power creep by adding more and more unbalanced classes to the game!
