[4e] The Wolfcrown, Chapter 1

(OOC - Holy hell...I'm -really- starting to hate this whole "init is whenever you post" system. I'll post more on this in the OOC thread.)

Thorn lashes at the assassin as he darts past her, then swears and vanishes into Doren's shadow only to erupt from the Queen's, flanking the assassin with Squeal. Black flame roars in sheets around the assassin as strange, ghostly images loom around him, tearing at his flesh with claws that seem insubstantial, but feel all too solid!

All through it, Thorn herself keeps attacking, desperately attempting to fell the assassin before he can complete his dread assignment!

[sblock=ooc]Everybody please check the OOC thread to weigh in on this issue that Shayuri is having. Please post in there before doing anything in the IC thread. Thanks! -DF [/sblock]

The plant moves quickly away and Torath barely has time to react. "You will not escape my wrath monter." he says charging foward. The newly magical sword glows a pale blue as Torath uses it to chop through the creature, but it's hide is to tough.

As the sword hits the monster a flash of the same pale blue light washes over Torath's friends. They feel a little of their strength return to them from the divine magic.

[sblock=Actions]
AoO = STR vs AC = 10 Miss I believe :erm:
Minor- None
Standard- Glorious Charge CHA vs AC 1d20+9 = 18, 2d8+5 = 16 And another miss :confused:
Plant #1 takes 6 points for ignoring the mark. Huzzah!! :p

EFFECT: After the attack, each ally within 2 squares of you regains hit points equal to one-half your level + your Wisdom modifier. Which would be 3 pts to Baern, Squeal, and The Queen.

This power makes no mention that the attack has to be successful. Let's hope not. :-S

Doren snarls softly as he hauls back with mace in hand as he drops it to the shoulder of the passing assassin.... hopefully staggering his gate enough for Thorn to hinder him even further

[sblock=Opportunity Attack]1d20+7=21 to hit for 1d8+5=10 damage[/sblock]

Snarling as the assassin keeps trudging towards his target Doren turns the glow of Blackmoors resolve in his own eyes as he stares the assassin down... slipping past the assassing just enough to avoid a deadly swing by his spear he wiggles his way deftly within melee of the assassin once more and tries to strike him down once more... but before doing so he reaches out to touch m'Lady Springseer once more to aid her with Blackmoor divine glowing energies.

So focused is he on the assassin, Baern completely misses his chance at making a salad of the plant creature scrambling past him.

When he notices that all of the enemies are in a group around him, he unleashes Blackmoor's fury! As his holy light descends upon his enemies, Baern himself moves away from them, warping the battlefield to put a bit of distance between Queen Springseer and her attackers.

[sblock=Actions]OA: rolled a natural 1
Standard: Angelic Echelon vs. 1,2,A; 1d20+8 hits WILL 20,16,9 respectively for 11 damage (half damage on a miss); targets take 5 radiant damage whenever they attack before the end of my next turn (and I believe that includes the OA I just gave plant 1 when I moved).
Move: to J6
Minor: Divine Call to pull Springseer to G7

OOC: Shayuri's crappy rolls are becoming contagious, I see.

Even though fortune does not seem to be on the side of the heroes, their combined efforts manage to fell the assassin just in time!

Squeal's brave assault manages to wound the assassin handily, giving Thorn time to close the distance. Even though her strike misses its mark, the shrouds she carefully placed on the assassin deal hefty damage to him. Finally, a combined attack from Baern, Torath, and Doren manage to bolster the queen's health and smite the assassin down.

As silently as they came, the monstrous plant creatures dissolve into large puddles of black and green ooze. It seems as if they were held together only by the will of their master.

The killer's face morphs into its natural state: a hollow-cheeked, gray-eyed creature with thin features and a frighteningly dead stare. Queen Springseer looks down at the unconscious assassin with an expression of pure terror.

"This was the monster they sent to kill me? This foul creature has fallen, thanks to you, my friends."

Springseer looks at you with a grateful (but shaken) expression.

"You may take this cretin prisoner. I imagine you have many questions for him. He mentioned something about your friend. Perhaps the wizard was the one who provided him the intelligence you need. Regardless, take the assassin to the guards' quarters. After you've questioned him, you may mete out punishment as you see fit. I will have my rangers pursue the wizard and capture him for questioning. Deal with them as you please, and then join me at the banquet tonight."

The Queen summons Bounder and another ranger, who tear off into the woods, brandishing their bows, seeking Thomas the wizard - the one who may have sold the Queen's life to the would-be murderer.

You are escorted with the unconscious assassin to an isolated area of the White Vale. The guards leave you in peace.

Slowly, the assassin begins to awaken.

Groggily, he asks, "Gods be damned. I've failed, haven't I?"

[sblock=Doren]Also, Doren gains a Hero Point for exceptional valor in combat![/sblock]

"You should not damn those whom ye are about to meet and have their judgement passed upon thee." Torath says grim faced.

Usually the one to quietly watch as more experienced people carry out questioning someone. The turmoil inside the knight brings forth a question he must know.

"Is Munsu truly the head of The Cloak?" he asks grimly.

The assassin sits more upright - a difficult task, considering the manacles that bind him. He eyes his belt, and notices that his weapons have been removed and placed on a shelf near the door. He takes a long look at Squeal's new "chest-plate," then lets out a sigh. It seems that this scum has been beaten.

"I suppose if I don't cooperate, I'll end up looking a bit more like ol' Claymore, eh? I can tell you right now, I don't want you to cut my face off and mount it on anybody's chest. My name's Mig. As you...may've noticed, I was sent by The Cloak to kill little miss Springseer. To answer your question, sir, yes. Munsu really is our great patron. Munsu was the one who got Bright-Eyed Teach into power, and they work together right well."

Mig takes a long breath, then smiles. His eyes glisten with a certain sense of charm - a roguishness that makes him seem like more than just a common killer.

"Munsu swore me in. Blessed my own knives, he did. It was him personally that sent me here - not Cap'n Teach, although I'm sure they planned it together. Why do you ask, sir knight? Your armor seems a bit shinier than most of the other worshippers of the Great Trickster. Could it be that your faith is wavering a little bit?"

Mig sighs and leans his head against the wooden post behind him.

"Well, what's it gonna be then? Any other questions? I think you'll find me rather talkative, seeing as I'd rather not get my face carved off. Before we get going, though, could you pour me a drink from that flask? I'm right parched from all our swashbuckling."

He nods toward a small silver flask on his belt.

"You could just pour right in my mouth, good sirs, or give me a free hand if you trust me enough to let me drink."

Baern walks over to the flask. "This one?" he asks. He unstoppers the top and returns to the prisoner. "T'be honest, sir, I don't trust ye a damned bit." The dwarf's yellow-stained teeth peek through his beard as he enjoys pouring the liquid onto the floor a distance away from Mig.

Doren snarled softly as the smug little changling spoken and ranted on and on about how great he was to be anointed by the great Mansu himself... he shook his head hard as he took two purposeful steps towards the assassin and backhanded him across the face with purpose.

"Listen here you no good excuse for a floor throw. I will have NONE of your profession around here anymore and if Mansu himself IS listening I'll tell you and HIM this. You will fail. Your great and illustrious plan will end with US assembled here. And by Blackmoors will I will see this 'plot' PERSONALLY to the ends of the planet to have my victory." Doren says as he he leans in to spit on the would-be assassin.

"Trying to kill an innocent queen.... you disgust me at least Claymoor had the 'brass' to stand against us in combat to the finish. As soon as you felt your hold on the situation slipping you ordered your plant-like dogs to swoop in and finish Springseer... You deserve your fate scum and I for one and half temped to let Thorn here give you Crags same fate." Doren barked as he turned to move towards the door.

Doren placed one hand on the door frame and glared out into the slowly darkening sky... He was done with his words with the assassin if anyone else wanted answers, they could ask but he now cared not what happened to the killer they had captured.
