D&D 4E 4E updates/errata posted today 1/20/2009

I think the Veteran's Armor change was an over-reaction. It needed to be modified for those GMs who can't say "No," but making it work lie the staff that swaps powers (i.e. limiting it to powers of its level or lower) would remove the worst abuses and still make it flavorful and a viable choice. The new version is unlikely to be sought after by many PCs, as its use is limited and there are better armors out there.

I agree...it was an overreaction.

I'm so disappointed.

It's been over 5 months now since last update and most changes I see there are referring to keywords...

...meanwhile, the stuff that really needed errata update is still there, broken.
Like what?

Did you notify customer service about 'the stuff that really needed errata update'?

I for one am glad they revised the veil of shadows ability of the Shadar-Kai Gloomblade (MM p. 230). According to RAW, it caused the Shadar-Kai to be invisible indefinitely! It caused some serious stalling in a game I was DMing, and man did I have a hard time finding the balance reasons behind that power!

They rewrote the purple worm's swallow attack (and the elder version's one too), but they didn't change the feymire crocodile's one. Why? Am i missing something?

There are dedicated forums on the wizard's boards for the errata. It's way better to simply post in there instead of notifying CS.

To name a couple:

Rain of Blows (PH) - needs Revision/Clarification
Double Sword (AV) - needs Revision/Clarification
Battlerager Vigor (MP) - needs Clarification

There are many others too.

It's a shame seeing Greg showing up in there thanking us for the feedback and such, only to present us "Blazing Horn the Fury, replace 'Solo Primordial' with 'Solo Brute' " and mostly stuff like that.

Really, the only thing that we actually needed from the last update was the change to Veteran's Armor, and maybe the hag.

Eh... it is very low level armor. I have a character who has some now and will probably change out at some point (because of the nerf), but it's pretty on par for its low level after the change.

But, yeah, most popular armor to 'just another option' and the hunt for resistance armor or whatever continues :)

Venteran's armor should have a scaling bonus now; +1 at 2 & 7, +2 at 12 & 17, and +3 at 22 & 27.

Hell I could even go with raising each up a level or two and making the bonus equal to the enchantment bonus.

Bonuses to attack and defenses don't work like that, Lakoda. A +1 attack bonus is useful at all tiers.

Damage and resistance type effects need to scale, however, yes.

A casual glance was enough for me to realize there was a duration accidentally left out. While it's nice to have official confirmation which exact duration was intended, suggesting no duration at all is to me clearly preposterous and something I'd instantly ignore.

You need to get better at simply saying "no", and stop letting the rules get in the way of your common sense. :)
