Well, I think those that really like 4e mechanics will love Diablo's too, no?
No. I'm pretty sure of at least one data point - me. I think Diablo is pretty boring, whereas in 4E, I'm weaving an interesting story in a huge, ever surprising world with exciting combats together with my friends.

Cheers, LT.

But how can't Diablo offer what 4e you say can offer here to you? It's sort of like the same engine, no? How is it different?

The only mechanic you need in Diablo is "point and click".

Your quote here begs for this answer:
The only mechanic you need in 4e is your hand to pick up the mini and replace it, pick up the dice and roll it and write down the result. Of course, if you play on the virtual tabletop you only need to point and click.

4th ed is as similar to Diablo 3 as any other edition would be. It is a fantasy game about killing monsters, usually through team work. Mechanically the two franchises have little else in common. D&D uses turn based tactical movement, where Diablo has a much more arcade esque real time combat system. D&D abilities have refresh rates based on ingame time (this has been expanded in more recent versions of D&D, but with vancian magic it was there all along) while diablo has a system based around every class using a depleting mana pool. Lastly, D&D is designed to be mediated by a DM, while Diablo has never once had this as a feature nor is it on the feature list for Diablo 3.

The only thing that I can understand clearly regarding the mechanic differences of all you have said is the turn based versus real time.
But then, even Diablo's mana restoration mechanics take some time, so Diablo incorporates a turn based like mechanic too.
