Jokes aside both are 7 figure investments. My point is, does D&D provide enough extra value to excuse the investment? Do not see it from a fan's temporary point of view. See it from an economic point of view.

I feel sad for your games if you think 4E is the same as Diablo.

Do you not Role play in you games?

or do you sit in front of your monitor and Role play while playing Diablo?

If any of these applies you should really reconsider you way to have fun.

Umm... what?

That's sarcasm, isn't it? D'oh!
:)

No, I am serious. You know, dice, chances, learning the chances based on the mathematic rules by learning the rules and playing to make it so that you have the best chances to progress a story that plays along your success.
This is the very basic idea. Going deeper, to the details I do not see any design differences among Diablo III and 4e either. Similar roles of similar specific board or 2d effects with the same management of objectives: confront the monster, collect loot so you can confront the next monster.

Do not be because you are out of contest. You do not need 4e's rule mechanics to role play. I am talking about 4e vs Diablo III. Not Diablo III vs role playing.

There's a system to both games, of course, but they're rather different. They're both based on math, but whereas with Diablo 3 you have to go through the same campaign over and over again you don't do so with D&D (of any edition). It's true that Diablo (of any edition) makes for some good "kill the monsters and take their stuff" kind of adventure, but the roleplaying has usually not been especially deep and that has never been Diablo's purpose. I like both Diablo and D&D for what they are, one is an action RPG and the other is a tabletop RPG:)
