4th Edition is Looming - Here is More Evidence

Sure, it may happen that way. But I feel it is best to not take anything as a fact regarding 4E until it is actually a fact. The 4E hysteria is already bad enough without misunderstandings like in this thread.

Yah. It is perhaps important to note that when folks come here, they're perusing "EN World - Morrus' D&D/d20 News & Reviews Site". While this isn't to say that we can't speculate and theorize, it does mean we ought to put a little effort into drawing the line between real news and the less well-supported flapping of our jaws.

If we put in that effort now, when we do finally have news, it'll be rather easy to tell it apart.

Im not even sure whether or not there is an OGL will even matter for 4e. Unless they make the game unrecognizable... well... OSRIC 3e anyone?

I doubt anyones confusing forum talk with news. I'm sure the day 4e is announced it will be on the news on the front page.

Gaming Report's Dan Sivils spoke to D&D Associate Brand Manager, Kevin Wilson and other WotC officials at GenCon today. Kevin Wilson confirmed that: 1) WotC is not working on a 4E which will force players to use miniatures, and 2) no 4E products will be released in 2007.

So really, we're more than a year away if this is to be believed. I also doubt they'd release anytime but GenCon, which brings us to GenCon 2008 or 18 months.

Not exactly imminent.

I look at this like movie spoilers. There are things that have been corroborated by a few very different sources. So I'm not taking it for fact, but I'll take it as more than likely true.

Excepting the fact that those sources - respectable industry folks, yes, true - are, by and large, not involved with the day to day operations of the D&D brand. Therefore they have slightly more educated guesses than some, but it's not anything resembling evidence or even a solid indication of direction. This isn't akin to spoilers for a movie - it's people talking in a cafe. Rumors and speculation, nothing more.

I'm with Umbran on this one - stop posting unfounded speculation and talking about 'informed' sources you're drawing your speculation from. As has been said, the only folks that might know aren't talking.
