4th edition: Return of the Groundlings An Open Letter of Thanks to WoTC

Vig, did d20 give you your start? Because while Mike has done stuff that I have liked, I find your work more "rad".

Yep. My first book was Vigilance, a d20 super-hero RPG released as a PDF at RPGNow about 5 or 6 years ago.

In fact, the attempt at d20 supers was inspired by the Godlike OGL super-hero rules written by Mike Mearls.

Edit: And thanks for the compliment!

Well said, and I couldn't agree more.

I'm even having to re-think my Deeply-Cherished Internet Truism (TM) that WotC is an EVAL CORPERATION OUT TO RUEN MY GAME, but my therapist assures me that this will pass as soon as I see something about 4e I don't like.

I never had much use for third party d20 stuff myself, but I certainly don't begrudge their existance or others finding use for the material.

But I'm a bad person to judge by because I never found much use for the majority of products WotC put out for 3.x, either.

I'm with you 100% Vigilance, but I thought this thread was going to be about how 4e was going to make it easier to improvise games (as per Whizbang Dustyboots' "improv comedy" link), which I think it just might.

Either way, thanks, Wizards.

Now I'm thinking about buying Mike Mearls on Circvs Maximvs the custom title "Born fully formed from the thigh of Zeus" :D

It must be troo - I lerned it on the intarnet.

Great post, Vigilance! If there is indeed a 4e SRD, I'm going to be a happy happy boy. I use d20srd all the time and it makes me play D&D more.

I'm pretty sure that's too long for a custom user title.

I am 100% sure I didn't mention anyone who felt that game books should be left to the "true professionals".

I didn't mention anyone precisely because the purpose of this thread was NOT to dwell on those guys, but on Wizards for being awesome not once, but three times.

Since you bring it up though, I am fully aware that some of my fellow publishers are *exactly* who I was talking about.

So there, I've named my own specifically.

All better?

Actually, yes it does. Thank you for clarifying.
