(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

OOC:
"He waited for the sighs to die down (no Adventurer enjoyed much fetching, but it came with the job)"

At last! WE GET TO MAKE FETCH HAPPEN! You're welcome.

Let's take this to OOC channel for groups. I will post there.

"That sounds smart!" said Corrah, somewhat out of breath from running.

She'd just returned from having a look at the approaching wagon, and she made her report: "So, yeah. There's a wagon coming up to the switch-back (where the road comes up the cliff, near the river's waterfall, for you who don't know the area). It's a rough climb, so it'll take them about half an hour to reach the top, and us, about half that to get there, if we want to ambush them. It's a supply run for the Temple, I'd bet, and it's guarded by a pair of Beast Boys - that's the mercenary company that's low enough to take gold from the Cult of the Dragon. The driver is probably a cultist, and there's a few recruits on the back. I dunno if they're new cultists, or just some poor fools who have come to work, but they look fresh. A half-dozen total on the wagon, not counting the two oxen."

Their captain is Bardaby 'the Beast' Coombs. His Beast Boys have a terrible reputation, not just because of the jobs they take, but for murder, rape, and extortion as well.

Volyanna suggested, "Well, now we must choose groups quickly. If any are taking Loklafd's boats to the Lake, I think that you should not join in the Ambush. But anyone who is going to cross the River by the Bridge, whether you then continue to the Gate, the Watchtower, or the Kobold Caves, I think that there is no better opportunity than to do it under the guise of a returning wagon."

"I can show you where it is, and how to avoid being seen by the Watchtower and still make it to the Switchback!"
offered Corrah.

It was only to be decided who would join her.

Team Lake

Seeing Corrah beckoning Adventurers to join her it what was obviously an exciting opportunity to hit at the Cult right away by capturing a supply wagon, Loklafd decided that if anyone at all was going to use his watercraft, he'd have to step up right away. It was not a rivalry, so much as a need to keep things from descending into chaos.

The big northerner called out, "If anyone is wanting to try for the Underground Lake, come stand with me here!"

And he moved thirty feet to the northwest, not far from his own seal-skin tent, and stood waiting with mixed anticipation.

When Merrick heard that the Beast Boys were delivering supplies, his blood began to boil.

"If it's all the same, I'd to give some attention to Bardaby and his gang. So that puts me in the 'not lake' group."

The word of Merrick resonated with Shamal. I am with you. There are times to walk like the camel, and times to run like the oryx. And certainly, it would be a great boon to end a little evil before tackling the great evil.

Shamal's omnipresent grin widens. We shall prevail over the gang, and, if the djinn will it so, enter the caves and bring the wrath of the north wind into them! Shamal grabs Merrick, and then calls out for Torhak and Urgan. We four will join the ambush, and then go to the caves. But before we set out, I will recount the story of how the Faisan were led to deliverance against the royal sand worm.

Shamal gathers the other three adventurers, dons his khirkhash, and performs a swirling sword dance while the bells of the khirkhash highlight the story of how his people ended the terror of a purple worm.

When Shamal finished the performance, he gave a long warm laugh to the company. Surely, these caves will not contain a royal sand worm, and even if they did, it would not be a match for those whose bellies are filled with righteousness!

OOC:
Okay, first group of four (caves) set. @TaranTheWanderer @Kobold Stew @MetaVoid
Look to the OOC chat for details- if we go two groups, feel free to join.

1 heroic inspiration given to Urgan and Torhak (Merrick, sorry, but I only have two and you are human, so I gave it to the other two)

Shamal is ready to ambush some bandits.

Aywin approaches Loklafd "I will come to the lake".

OOC: Sorry for the short post, I'm back, & catching up. Hoping that other will come too!

Bjorn sized up the situation. At hearing Aywin volunteer for the lake route, he spoke up.

"Well, the caves and caravan seem well attended to. Bill and I will tag along if ya don't mind."

Assessment: [Team: Cave] Frontline capability and Magical support. No further augmentation required

Determining that Cave Team had formed a well rounded unit, Shade-9 turned his focus to the remaining teams. His negotiation and deception protocols were not optimized and self-analysis told him that direct engagement at the Gatehouse or Watchtower was statistically disadvantageous. Thus after eliminating the other options, he moved towards the Elder Loklafd who waited near a seal skin tent.

Team Lake currently consisted of the dwarf Bjorn and his weasel familiar, who had already confirmed transformation protocols and presumed environment and healing utilities. The silver-skin [Subject:Aywin] was not so clear in his nature, pressumably a planar-touched species. He was however well armed with armour, pike and great sword. Doubtless he brought effective martial ability that would complement Shade-9s own ranged and stealth aptitudes. Together the triad would make a well-structured combat unit, they did lack mobility and arcane capacity, but that was not sufficient to diminish their operational efficiency.

As he approached the Lake crew Shade-9 raised a hand as a gesture of comradery before looking to the old man
"I am ready to proceed"

Mission realignment complete... Awaiting orders from Loklafd.

Darius looks at the others as they begin to split off into smaller groups for the various objectives. Those planning to go towards the caves already had a decent group. No one had stepped forward to try and sneak their way into the front gate. Darius was not sure he was much help in that arena. Though he could be affective as a scout for that group. He looked at those going by the lake and shrugged. He walks towards Loklafd.

"I'll go with you guys unless one of the other groups desperately needs my assistance."
