"Let's all shout it together, shall we?"
says Terrin to Merrick walking beside him at the front of the caravan and to his other companions disguised as mercenaries and attempts to lead them in yelling the password in unison.

OOC: Here is a not terrible depiction of the tower, if you consider that the base looks more like the tower is squished into the black rock (as if the rock "flows" around the tower) and the road continues to the left. The foreground ought to be a bridge, as opposed to a low stone wall. Otherwise, basically has the right feel.

Merrick nods to Terrin. When he yells it, it is very, very loud.

OOC: how high is the top of the tower?

How high is the top of the tower?
OOC: Forty feet from the level of the road, which passes fifty feet in front of the tower. Rushing it would be a bit of a climb, but not totally undoable. I've seen it happen.

Team Ambush Infiltrate

The group on the wagon, who appeared to be a little worse for wear, and cloaked (reasonable with the frequent spring rains and the spray that came from the river, carried by the frequent winds that flowed between the two peaks) shouted, "Feed the Beast!"

The sound carried up to the mercenaries at the top of the tower, who could make out the words, but not the specific voices. They waved the flag back and forth once more, and then stood down. Turning to speak inaudibly to each other, then back to whatever they were doing, out of sight of those on the ground.

"I guess that's it." whispered Corrah (who was in the wagon under a tarp beside a turnip sack) to Copper, who was standing on a footboard at the back of the wagon, holding onto the rail, stooped, trying not to look quite as tall. She realized that there was now no easy way for her to leave to report to Imani, and she wondered how they would reach the Caves which were east, while the road wound to the west. At least they'd be on the correct side of the river.

TEAM LAKE - REGROUPING

Scanning across the lake Shade-9 nudged the kayak towards the muddy bank to allow the weasel Bill to climb back on board as the giant frog Bjorn slipped back into the waters and the other kayak followed over the waterfall with a rush. Though Aywin slipped from the kayak, Shade-9 recalled that the genasi was not at risk of drowning, so Loklafd could stage a quick rescue and the team could regroup satisfactorily, even if somewhat drenched.

If he had been alone Shade-9 would have withdrawn into the familiar obscurity of the flickering shadows that the torchlight cast around the cavern, but his position in the tandem kayak building cohesion with the team worked against his instinct and he reached out a hand, briefly warm, to touch his companions shoulder reassuringly.

"We are safe for now" he acknowledged even as he noted the rippling of the water as things moved beneath "but this area is unstable and lacks load-bearing integrity. We should proceed"
[Status Check: Team Integrity – Stable] [Tactical Cohesion – Sustained]
[Environment Risk
– Elevated]

Shade-9 noted too that Bjorn had returned carrying what appeared to be a sword which he examined with interest, utilising enhanced scanning to detect any arcane residue

“So, Shamal, can your Djinni god grant wishes? Maybe we just wish to pass unnoticed. Or destroy the cult. Or world peace?

Merrick looks at the group and continues in his soft spoken manner,

“I think I’ll stay with the group going to the gates. I was a soldier and mercenary myself, although not brutal like these guys, but I understand them. It might be easier for me to fit in with them.

Don’t forget to bring an offering for the kobolds. Bring the rotten food. We’ll have an excuse for why we dumped it but if we get rid of the booze, that will definitely be missed. Besides, we can use it to get the guards liquored up.”

Team Lake

Aywin reembarked with Loklafd and their kayak pushed off, leaving a torch behind. As they neared the waterfall, Loklafd said, "Lay back as we go forward: It will feel like you are standing."

Aywin did, but as the kayak plunged nose-first into the lake, he stood a little too far up, and he was pulled from his seat. The weight of the waterfall pushed him downward, and Loklafd popped back up to the surface alone. The big northman could tell before he opened his eyes from the 'feel' of the weight of the kayak that he'd lost his fellow passenger, and he spun the kayak around, waiting for Aywin to surface.

A brief moment passed and then Aywin came up with a gasp and Loklafd quickly paddled over to him. It was much easier to simply hold onto the kayak and be ferried to shore than it was to climb back in, so Aywin wound up climbing onto the muddy bank near Bill, drenched and mucky, but none the worse for it.

OOC: I rolled for you rather than going back-and-forth. Bad roll. Sorry! But Loklafd rolled well and saved you. Teamwork!
Aywin climbs out of the muddy bank. He stands up, his ego brused but he regains his composure and dignity. He chants arcane words, and a soothing breeze goes over his body, cleaning and drying him.

Team Lake
Bjorn spit out the sword on the muddy shore near Shade-9. Seeing Bill was now secure on another boat, he then slipped back into the lake and swam towards a side tunnel that appeared to lead deeper into the mountain.

OOC: Bjorn swims to Area 5 on the map.

Team Lake

Svetlana had briefly left the area where Aywin could reach her telepathically. She returned now, as Bjorn began to swim in her direction (unknowingly, as the only one who was aware of her at all was Aywin) and she said telepathically to Aywin, "Blegh! It IS a sewer! Looks like the cultists have a grate that they throw waste down into the lake."

Shade-9 had a look at the sword. His eyes shifted lenses, and he could see its magical aura and the signature of the swordmaker, hidden in magical runes. This sword was a lightbringer - one of a series of such that had been made over a hundred years ago on the Moonshae Isles. Very sharp, and by a simple order of "Illuminate", it cast light like a lantern. Shade-9 found this information stored in his memory.

TEAM LAKE - SUBJECT: SHADE-9 - REGROUPING

A Lightbringer" Shade-9 declared as he completed his assessment, cross referencing arcane signatures with archived data records. "Crafted over a century ago in the Moonshae Isles. It is Responsive to verbal command and emits light like a lantern. It remains combat-viable.
[Object Analysis: Longsword, Lightbringer-class Origin: Moonshae Isles]
[Arcane Imprint:
Evocation . Activation (Vocal): “Illuminate”]

"Illuminate!" he spoke the word clearly, his arm extended and sword raised so any light it shed would illuminate the cavern and lake surface. "Recommendation: Assign to wielder with limited darkvision and front-line placement. lSubject: Bjorn] to confirm

Are we ready to proceed?
"
