(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Shamal's ego wasn't the only thing that took a beating from the bandit; he feel like he has been encased in the morning fog for some time. Almost automatically, he leapt off the cart with the others and stumbles after them.

After a short period, the fog lifts from his senses and he looks around, realizing that Merrick was not with them. Wait! We are one camel short of a caravan, friends.

It is then that he turns and sees Merrick approaching them from behind. Shamal's face lights up as he surveys the group of four.

It is the will al-Raml that we will bring great displeasure on those that would oppose us!

He pauses for a second in thought, and then continues.

And it is must be their blessing that there are four of us. When there are four elements together as one, fate will smile upon our good deeds!

"Take care yourself!" Copper calls back to Corrah, before judging up the tower.

"So the score is a statue in there, right?" the goliath asks the remaining group.

Team Lake - Darius

Darius shields his eyes from the sudden bright light.

"A little warning would have been nice. You nearly blinded me."

Once his eyes adjust to the suddenly glowing sword he scans the cave. The didn't have many options. Either follow the sewer or continue further down the lake itself.

"So we don't have many options. I saw we see what is further up the lake. I have little desire to enter the sewer unless we have to."

Team INFILTRATE

Copper, Lorent, and Terrin rolled up to the Gatehouse. It was a stone structure nestled into the side of Blackpeak, a few hundred yards west by northwest of the Watchtower. It consisted of a pair of oak doors bounded in iron, protected from above by four dark murder-holes. There was some sign of movement behind the murder-holes, but no challenge was shouted; no attack, nor alarm. Just the sound of the river and the rattle of the wagon.

OOC: Something like this, except the murder-holes hang over the door further, and it's clear that it is possible to drive the wagon right on through the doors, once open.

After the group passed the tower and as the gate loomed, Lorent prepared himself as best as he could. He tried to look as much as the original cultist as he could. He casts guidance to intuit the best tone to take, he practices few times the voice and cadence of cultist speech, what little he had heard of it and in general gets into the character of a cultist that has to deal with lowly mercenaries.

Luckily, his noble upbringing and a bit of snobbishness bring a lot to this disguise.
Anyone looking over from the murder holes would be convinced this was the cultist.

"Ahoy the gate! We came to feed the dragon! Argyle, stop snickering and open the gate!"

neurotic: 2D20H1 + 5 + D4#lorents disguise → 26 (high 1 of 3; 20 = 20 + 5 + 1)#Lorents disguise
OOC: WHOA! Actor really paid off, guidance for deception, ready to cast minor illusion to adjust the face features if someone gets really close

Acknowledged." Shade-9 tilted his head slightly at Darius’s reaction, the glowing blade still held in his outstretched hand. [Observation: [Subject:Darius] – Visual aversion to sudden photonic surge.] His tone was flat, with only the slightest modulation.
"Your visual sensitivity was not aniticipated, I will initiate a verbal alert before triggering future optical disturbances.
"

With that he turned the blade slightly, letting the light fall across the cave walls in a broad sweep, the swords illumination chasing shadows from the rocky surfaces in the direction Darius had proposed. Shade-9’s optics narrowed as he gazed ahead then across to Aywin and Loklafd and then over the water where Bjorn was swimming towards the sewer entrance.

"The sewer is narrow and contains hazardous biological discharge. It may however give quick access to the temple interior." he considered, making quick analysis of the present information and the voiced opinions of his companions

"The lake appears to be current feed, indicating continuation to a possible second chamber or another outlet. There is indication of subsurface motion in the lakes center however which may pose an additional exploration hazard.

I am willing to explore further to 'see what is further up the lake' but we will require vigilance - Mission objective is not yet time critical"

Team Lake

With the lightbringer illuminating the cave, it was possible to plot a course across the lake that avoided the vines, assuming that they would not sway very far when sensing the motion of the kayaks. Hugging the western shore seemed the best route forward.

With that in mind, Svetlana did a second foray northward, speaking telepathically to Aywin from the edge of the limit of their link, she said "The lake narrows and the water gets a bit of a current. Nothing like before, but maybe your friends will drown this time! There's a second sewer to the east. The west dips further in with a big old mucky beach. Wait - there's something there. Some kinda, I don't know. Stone ring? Looks mortal-built. Should I check it out?"

The gates began to open with the clack-clack sound of a chain winch.

A voice called from a murder hole, "Rawick you old bugger! Yer late! What th'f... happened t'ya? Yer short a few mercs! This is all ya got fer us?"

"Tell that to the effing kobolds! They forgot who they’re supposed to be working for and got us caught in a trap! I had two young ones with me!" Lorent calls back, mentally filing the name away for future use.
"And yeah, pickings are getting slim. We lost time, men, and some supplies - though the drinks are still here! But those buggers will be hearing from me yet!"
