(5.24 PBP) Vault of the Dracolich (IC) Redux

Urgan, in the caves.

As they proceed, Urgan casts minor illusion repeatedly, creating the appearance of floating barriers and warning ribbons to help mark where they should be walking, as they follow the Kobold.

He sets one up around the stagnant pool. "We should stay clear of that," he notes, stating the obvious. He then points towards the stone-worked chamber. "Should we not head that way?"

Team Lake

The group worked toward securing the transportation structure, starting with Loklafd throwing a body through the archway, saying, "In the very least, if it is not transported, it might trip up anyone who arrives."

The body did not activate the transporter, but Darius was able to observe enough of the runes that he felt confident that he could lock this chamber out of receiving. He simply needed to trace the correct pattern, which he did with his mage hand. The red stone on top of the structure turned a dullish hue, even with Bjorn' moonlight shining down on it.

Shade-9 stood by, observing with all of his sensors tuned wide. From across the lake, over the sound of the water as it flowed between the two northern points, his aural sensors picked up the unmistakable sound of battle, which echoed through the nearer of the two "sewer" tunnels.

Guldred shuffled his feet in the muck, hoping that his request for aid would be fulfilled, as Aywin used magic to clean Bill, who had once more become a muddy weasel.

Team Caves

Merrick, Shamal, Torhak, Urgan, and their kobold guide Pikki sat at the far side of the cavern away from the writhing tree-creature, and close (but not too close) to a stagnant pool. While they rested, Urgan asked about the tunnel downward into a worked stone vault. Pikki, who either caught his eye, or understood enough of the common tongue to catch his meaing, insisted in squeaks that Merrick translated, "No, no! The dig-site is up that way! Down there is death!"

After awhile the tree stopped reaching and writhing, and it muttered in a deep, rough fey tongue, "Aarrrooohhhaaah."

::They come to gloat. To see the treant with no forest. No light. No water. They watch as I fade. Fade as did my brothers, Threeroot and Greenbough. Gone. Gone from this world. Soon enough, Ironbark will be gone.::

Message
Merrick looks around at the various exits.

"Sorry, we have to go down there?" He purposefully points at the wrong direction towards the location of the crafted stone walls.

He sits by the gross, slimy pool and opens his bag and takes out enough rations to feed both himself and Pikki. He offers her something to eat as he chats,

"That seems like a strange place to mine..."

He offers a bit to drink as well. Nothing special - just clean water.

Merrick does not speak Sylvan.

Is it possible to take a short rest? If so, how long will it take?

Also, using the time to gain information.

If we are short resting:
1 Hit Dice: 1D12+3 = [7]+3 = 10

Which would bring me to 28/53

I'll spend another:
2nd Hit Dice: 1D12+3 = [10]+3 = 13
41/53

I guess there's no strategic reason to save them so I'll roll the last one:
3rd Hit Dice: 1D12+3 = [4]+3 = 7
48/53
regain 1 rage.
Just putting this here because you may have missed it. My goal was to get a bit more info out of the kobold.

OOC: To motivate my own action, I rolled an insight check for Urgan, to see how suspicious he was of the kobold's answer. 1d20-1=1. Ha.

In all of Urgan's life, he has never met a more trustworthy individual than this kobold. If he says death and danger are that way, then Urgan believes him completely, and urges everyone to move towards the dig-site's indicated direction.

"We should head up that way, like Pikki says," Urgan suggests. "That tree makes such ghastly noise, we should avoid it, lest it attack." Urgan moves towards the dig-site.

Team Lake - Aywin

Aywin smiles at Guldred. He magically cleans him to then gives him a pat on the back. "you're as good a new!" he says in a friendly way.

As he is doing this, Aywin sends Svetlana to explore the nearest tunnel and to report back in 1 minute.

"Copper, we need to close the portcullis," says Terrin, as he begins moving past the goliath toward the storeroom, "and you're the only one who can do it."

He pauses and utters a harsh sounding word as he places his hand on the goliath's shoulder, adding, "May this help you find a way to disable it."

He then moves to take cover in the storeroom.

OOC: Terrin casts guidance on Copper, choosing Investigation and moves to AP-57.
