Shamal hears the sounds of battle subside, and as they do, he feels a sense of equanimity return to him - a blessing of the djinn. With this sense of equanimity, Shamal is able to view his memories float by and observe them without judgment or rancor; he sees himself picking up the idol. He remembers the others reacting to the strange smudge on his head. He recalls the power he felt surging through him as he ... froze others in place, and then the power turning to anger, and then to murderous hatred.

The power comes from a dark place, and it took from me.

More than that, Shamal remembered his actions, and a deep sense of shame overcame him. He heard Merrick's call, and paused for a minute, hoping that the darkness behind his closed eyes might swallow him whole, but realized that this was a foolish notion. Shamal opened his eyes and walked to where Merrick was standing.

Habibi ... I ... have not the words. My burden overcame me. I offer my apologies. Of course you may have the sending stones.

With that, Shamal gives the sending stones to Merrick, and summons Iron Thorn to commiserate and make sure that the fledgling was safe.

Merrick places his hand on the Shamal's shoulders,

"No words are necessary. If there's anything we can do to help you, just ask."

Merrick takes the sending stone. He will wait to communicate with the others once they have more information from their prisoners.

Darius nods at Loklafd suggestion.

"That seems like our best option"

Darius the nods to the lizardfolk and turns to accompany his companions back towards the previous chamber and the entrance to the Bhaalite temple.

Team Lake & Team Infiltrate

The Kayaks were not heavy, but the were somewhat awkward, occasionally scraping on the walls, or tipping sideways when carried over the uneven and steeply-plunging ledge-trail. Loklafd was at the front of the train, with one hand on a kayak's bow, and the other holding his glowing sword. Both Svetlana and Bill passed him by, the former flying invisibly over the lake, and the latter scampering over rocks and sniffing at holes.

Loklafd's sword-light was the first thing that Terrin and Lorent saw, coming from the north and reflecting off the ripples and eddies on the surface of the lake. Then Bill hopped into view and stopped suddenly, lifting onto his hind legs and sniffing at them before deciding that they were safe and known to him.

By this time, Svetlana had warned Aiwyn that they were there with a sarcastic telepathic quip. Bjorn had just made it to the lake, swimming as hard as his frog-legs could take him up the winding tunnel, with water rushing in his face. He dove deep, remembering the sleeping hydra to the south-east.

Copper stood on the opposite ledge in the south, and he watched in Terrin's dim dancing light as the cultist broke the surface with a gasp. Then the water nearby began to churn as dozens of blind but hungry fish came to the surface and made their way toward him. The cultist scrambled at the slippery, too-steep ledge before being pulled back into the water with a scream and a roil of blood came to the surface, but the cultist did not.

The team carrying kayaks recognized the unnerving sound of a person being eaten by the lake's vicious fish. They'd heard it before.
