5' step+spells=AoO? Y/N?

Well, assuming you haven't moved already this round, you can take a 5' step with your partial action. So, if the wizard steps back 5' to cast a spell, your ready action kicks in and you step up 5' and attack.

Hehe...I knew Ice would save the day. :D

With a ring that grants a +30 competence bonus to your concentration checks and only costs 18,000gp, they never fail.

Assuming your DM lets you make one that cheap.

Once a fighter gets next to a mage things will usually go downhill for the mage. A low levels a fighter can take a 5' step to get next to the mage and then ready an action to attack him if he tries to move away. A high level fighter is better off just beating the unholy tar out of the mage, or tripping or grappling them and then beating/crushing the tar out of them.

If your DM won't let you have that item at that price, then you have a really lame DM, IMO, or you play in a low-magic campaign, which is a variant by the way, not the core. That item is perfectly legit in every way. But trust me, as a DM I know there are ways to defeat that ring.

True. But you're still gonna get pummeled by that "free action, no AoO triggering quickened spell". :)

Guidelines for prices are guidelines, not rules. A DM being in charge of the game he runs is not lame. A DM who lets a player walk all over him and decide the price of a magic item is. This isn't even a rule-zero, as many, many items by the price guideline are stupidly powerful.

Back on subject: the five-foot stepping mage is why fighters should take spiked chain! Step up right next to him to attack, watch him squirm.

Not at low levels, since that would be 5th level spell slot they are using. (Unless they are pummeling you with a quickened ray of frost.)

Not at low levels...
 That's a given, Cal. Kind of like saying "A bucket doesn't weigh much." then someone spouts off with "It does if there is a whole bunch of water in it!". But thanks a bunch for the wisdom. :p This is all in good fun, I'm in a playful mood today, though I think reaper almost caught me at a bad time.
