D&D 5E 5Basic update (w/ DMG and MM info) on 8 August?

Player's Handbook spoilers are flooding in from the lucky souls who managed to find a copy on the shelves. Many other Canadians are also getting their shipping notices from Chapters/Indigo.

Let's talk about something else: who's excited to get an update to 5Basic? I am!

Assuming I'm not an idiot (and I might be), IIRC we'll be seeing 5Basic v0.2 (or v1.0?) on Friday, 8 August 2014! This update should include the 5Basic version of the Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual info.

Let's speculate: What's iconic enough to be a "basic" monster or magic item?

I don't think we'll see 'basic dmg' till the MM drops in september,

And I'm not expecting 'basic mm' till the 15th

But I think goblins, orcs, a few demons, dire rat. tarrasque?

If I were at home right now I'd pull out my 3.0 PHB 1st printing and look at the August 2000 Survival guide appendix. Anything in there should be in basic.

Sorry to bubble burst, but Mike Mearls tweeted that while they'd try to get the Basic update out this weekend, due to all the work surrounding Origins he wasn't making any promises.

The plan was for it to come out on the 8th. However, they have said they are working frantically on the DMG and so the Basic update might be a little late (think: less than a week late). I'm going to agree with their prioritizing there (as much as I'm wanting to see Basic, since my PHB won't ship until the 19th or so).

But it will most definitely have the relevant materials from both the MM and the DMG in it.
