Forged Fury, we ninja'd one another in the IC just now. I was editing as you were posting. If you haven't seen my edit, go take a look and modify accordingly, pls.
. . . < snip >I've discovered that I have to be cautious about 5e rules adjudications in order to avoid inadvertent edition cross-pollination. For this first year, this has meant looking up every.single.thing in the PHB to verify for accuracy. Tedious. There are times I wish I could unlearn 3.x. I'm glad to know what from previous editions informs 5e, but have to be careful to wall off knowledge.
With all that discussed, I think Roscoe can still get to H30 given his halfling ability and attack. His question was whether he could attack from his square diagonally into the spider's square. I think the rules would provide a cover advantage to the spider against that attack given the corner there.
(Spec might, though: he's much smarter.)
1. I thought the point-buy was fine. 27 hits a fair mark in my mind.
2. I thought it went fine. I like as close to a table gaming experience as possible, but completely understand that it can be challenging to keep up that posting rate.
3. The map updates were fine. Similar answer to #2.
4. I think the formatting is fine. I usually only need initiative at the top of the round, rather than every update.
5. I don't mind knowing creature HPs. It usually gets more important around 5th level when people start getting multiple attacks. Saves on the editing if you know that your first attacked dropped an enemy. You can edit in a move to another creature and attack.
6. I prefer individual, but can work with group.
7. Combat maps don't need backgrounds, IMO. The normal white excel background is fine. Please leave the grid designators, it makes it really easy to explain where you are moving.
8. I'm good, happy to be playing.
