D&D 5E 5e Gameplay Videos

I was bored looking around YouTube and decided to watch a few videos of people playing 5e. Most were somewhat tedious to watch lol.

Does anyone have any game session videos they would recommend? I have been DMing a long time but I always like to look for new tricks.

Thanks ahead!

Most of the ones I have watched have not been very entertaining. I really love CritJuice, but that's D&D 4e.

You're welcome to read the transcripts from my D&D 5e campaign. It's not a video, but I think you might be able to pick up a few tricks by reading them!

I found The Provokers an interesting group. They focus heavily on role-playing. They have great group chemistry and the DM and players really get into character.

Another nod for Critical Role.

They have the advantage that all nine of them are voice-over actors so they have performance skill, which makes the roleplaying much more compelling than other vidcasts. They also really get on well together and constantly come up with interesting ideas bouncing off each other. The DM, Matthew Mercer, is also fantastic at setting a scene and making all the NPCs original and interesting.

The only downside is that it's 8 players at the table, which means the combats are much longer and can get more tedious over time. The speed also suffers a bit from the players not having really absorbed all their abilities yet (they made the switch from PF to 5E when they "came to TV" as it were), plus having character sheets where all their stuff is all over the place. So there's a lot more time spent "finding stuff" than there really should be for a more involved production.

Overall, it's one of the few D&D podcast games I can stand to watch (A.I. of course being the other). I can't get into the official WotC games because the players all tend to be so milquetoast as performers, and the Nerd Pokers I've listened to are much more of the "making jokes and fooling around rather than playing" variety, which does nothing for me.

All in all, a thumbs up for Critical Role from me.

Woah! Did you record them all and type them up? I took speed reading courses so this is very cool for me to check out!

We played the game in text format on Roll20 so that it could be more easily made into transcripts for others to read. While I much prefer to play using voice, recording and transcribing would be a major undertaking!

Just another plug for Critical Role at Geek and Sundry, and Iserith's transcripts are terrific reads.

Thanks for the kind words!

Another vote for Critical Role. Such a good time. And watching Matt Mercer DM has inspired me to try to do more with how I set the scene and play NPCs in my own games.

I'm actually really disappointed we're missing out for two weeks due to Comic-Con and then Matt and Marisha being out of town.
