The Academy/Woods
Late Fall/Afternoon
Round 0
Asherah gasped as the spear in her hands burst into flame around the tip. She stared in wonder at it and then made a few passes through the air in some of the basic practice moves she had learned. And the fire went out when she willed it!
“Amazing!” the tabaxi murmured.
After the others chose their weapons, the woman’s voice fills the room again with more instructions. Following the others to the door, Asherah looked out over the expanse of forest. “Beautiful,” she said, falling into step with the others.
“I agree, we need to stay together and work together, help each other out,” Asherah said. “I am Asherah P’Rurr, of the Tabaxi Suzerainty,” she introduced herself to the others, getting their introductions in return. “I can move quietly and am pretty good at noticing things. I also climbe well. I’m willing to scout ahead, up in the trees.” She picked up a strap from one of the tables inside, securing it to her spear so she could have it on her back and her hands free if she needed to climb.
Asherah followed Quentin at point as they moved into the forest. She hiked her sari skirts up around her waist and scampered up a tree. She had to take her slippers off, though. They would not survive a trek through a forest. They were made for the smooth, timbered halls of a palace. “I don’t suppose anyone has a change of clothes, though,” she asked. “I am going to ruin my clothes.”
They traveled for around an hour before reaching a clearing with strange purple pod flowers. The sky was growing overcast. “There might be a storm coming,” Asherah mused. There was an old stone chapel in the center of the clearing.
Korlin simply looked at Asherah. "What do you think? Try out the church? See if there's help? Or avoid it and try out luck on our own?"
“Oh, yes, let us check it out,” Asherah said with curiousity. “In any event, it might be a good place to rest a bit.” She tched as she pulled sap from her fur and examined her dress, now with a few tears in it.
The others started to mess with one of the pods and Asherah tilted her head. “Why is everyone so afraid?” she asked. “The woman said the forest was mostly safe.” She watched as the flowers opened, bathing the area in rainbow light. “By the goddess! It’s beautiful!” She slipped up next to Korlin as they watched, and then the chapel door opened to reveal an older man, who greets them warmly, inviting them for stew and seeming to have been expecting them, though not for reasons they would have expected!
“I am sorry, good sir,” Asherah said with a bow. “The Academy did not send us,” she admitted. “We are newly arrived ourselves. We have been accepted as students into the school and are on our way there now. But if something is troubling you, we would certainly want to do what we can and are more than willing to deliver your requests and concerns when we arrive.”
