D&D 5E 5e Halcyon Academy

OOC: lol. I can't stop laughing. Hold on while I figure out how Raven's ex-husband is going to take you seducing his wife.

OOC: I appreciate you thinking through all the little details :) As long as granpa approves

Quentin soon realized that fighting was much more than brute strength. Even his weapon that he used for thrusting as hard as he could at anything that moved close was more versatile than he knew. Pretty soon, he ditched the shield and learned to fight defensively, haft and tines of the trident providing suitable defense. Not as much as shield would, but it would be much easier to swim without shield.

His speed and coordination improved dramatically. Soon, he was running over obstacle courses that their battlemaster set up as if they weren't anything more than small hills. Suddenly, fighting among the ropes of the ship or even hanging on the side of one wasn't as much of a problem. And with his ancestry, defeating the pirates became as easy as busting their ships hull. Or threatening to.

He bit into it with gusto as he did with everything worth living. He lived to the fullest coming in his room exhausted. But it all came together somehow, tavern brawls sharpened his fighter instincts. They also provided chances to protect Raven from harm or amorous advances of others. She could hold her own, he knew. But no matter how strong or skilled you were, groups were always a problem. Especially if you're too drunk to notice them on time.

Thus, he learned to intimidate them rather than fight. Those skills about leading people...could as well be used to frighten them. He noticed he stopped looking at other women. Raven was capable, beautiful, carefree (for the moment) and appearing disinterested. In other words, perfect challenge. But while it started as a bet against himself, he soon found himself admiring her for real. Once he started looking for excuses to come to the School of the Immortal to watch her training (ostensibly to train against various fighting styles) he realized he's in love.

Other girls in the group could notice the change. But Lyla was the worst. She teased him wherever she got the chance, befitting her fey nature. And more than once she ended up under the cup or splashed with whatever Quentin had to hand to silence her. But never had he tried to hurt her or drive her away. He would occasionally invite others to train with him both as allies and as opponents. Having an archer on your side or a wizard was quite different than having full complement of soldiers.

Equally tactics would drastically change if you had to charge concealed archer or fortified mage than if you just had to slug it out in the open field. The puzzles of the various setups, discovering new ways to bypass them, that was nearly as interesting as finding new port to sail into.

[sblock=Quentin]

That first night when Quentin tried to walk Raven home, she let him, keeping that grin on her face the whole time. When they got there, a man opened the door.

He was huge. He stood six and a half feet tall, his broad chest and shoulder rippling with muscles. His hands were big enough to palm a man's head, and looked strong enough to crush it if he did. He was wearing no shirt, but had a feather tied in a small braid on his otherwise straight, long black hair.

He looked Quentin up and down, unimpressed.

"Who's the lightweight," he said to Raven.

"New student," she said, having to reach up on her tip toes and pull the man down to kiss him I on the cheek. "He wanted to make sure I got home safe," she said with a grin.

Rorke grinned at that, then looked back at the Genasi, "See you around, kid."

A week later, Rorke was seen in the bar with a black eye and a limp, his arm in a cast. When asking the bartender what happened, Quentin was told that Raven and Rorke had had an...eventful relationship the last year or two, and Raven had had enough and kicked him out. Apparently Rorke had taken exception to that and tried to force his way into the house, and Raven had informed him, with her fists, that she didn't appreciate him taking exception.

That's the rumor, at least. Whatever the truth, Rorke no longer lives with Raven.

As the weeks go by after that, Raven continued her training with no apparent changes. She'd apparently moved on fairly quickly. Raven of course noticed Quentin's affections. She was polite, most of the time, though she did have a tendency to talk to him like he was a cute puppy that kept following her home.

She did, however, notice his improvement in the School of Combat. She spent half her time there, learning various fighting styles, so she saw him progress. Up until now, she had not gotten a drink with him, or done much of anything with him other than let him follow her around. Until one day, in the School of Combat's Training Center, and she noticed him looking at her (though he tried to act cool and look away when she turned to him.

"Ok, Guppy, I tell you what. You hop in the ring with me. No weapons. No magic. You win, and you can buy me a drink. Deal?"[/sblock]

OOC: Quentin should be more experienced, not a puppy. Let's write it off as first case of genuine feeling for a woman?

"As long as I don't end up like that beef slab some weeks ago." Quentin says with a smile. "You take all advantages from me. I'll give you one more." Quentin strips his armor off. His new training should see him through this (relatively) unhurt (he hopes). His lean muscles well defined from constant practice and swimmers shoulders almost double the width of Ravens dance as he takes the position.

Her training of course far surpasses his in this arena, but overconfidence was ever his weakness and refusing a bet was out of the question. He remembers several fights with sailors in which long hair, beard or other grab-easy articles meant the difference between standing victorious or waking in an alley.

OOC: Are we doing this round by round? I rolled one generic roll, but it can as easily be opening attack (grab or however wrestling goes in 5e)

OOC: Did you really just strip off against a monk? In fact she may be a,mystic either way you dead.
OOC:
Did I mention Quentin is overconfident? And with recent advances in his combat abilities and she is free of other obligations...yeah! Mystic...she said no magic...and Quentin is not smart, this is all magic to him, he'll call foul if she uses anything supernatural

OOC: Quentin should be more experienced, not a puppy. Let's write it off as first case of genuine feeling for a woman?

OOC: Dont feel bad. This is all from Raven's perspective. She's very condescending. You took exception to something else she said about him earlier. If you can't take her heat, stop stoking the fire!

Also, lets do it round by round. Others can come watch if they want. I'll be bringing Korlin, Jorrick and Mezzra up soon for y'all to interact with.

Right now, it's everyone's game. You can explore relationships with each other and others (not just romantic, btw), study ancient magics, hunt down answers, pull pranks, whatever you want that interests you. Quentin seemed dead set on going after Raven, so I'm givin him a chance. Everyone else can have the same opportunity to explore, learn and have fun.

But don't worry, I'll switch gears from time to time and give you a challenge everyone can face off against. Usually in the form of exams, but also other things.

For Quentin, we'll call that first roll your Initiative. Here's Raven's: [roll0].

Quentin first! Attack Roll and damage, and an explanation of what you're doing, as usual.

Mim was heading to off for some food after learning he can control fate when he hears something about a fight. Mim's interest was piqued and he headed over to find Quentin and Raven going at it.

Mim watches the two fight for a little bit.Not enjoying his friends fight Mim hatches a Plot.
OOC: After a few hits are scored Mim will cast sleep. Leaving this here cuz its bed time.
