Keep in mind that 2e was smaller text and less pictures too. I'm guessing half the page count will be art.By the way, just for comparison, the original boxed set was ~228 pages, with NO adventure.
2e Planescape definitely was not "less pictures." The sections for each plane had art that was about 50% of each page, as did the section on each Faction (featuring a huge picture of a sample member of each faction for each one). And the font in the main box set was actually pretty large too...Keep in mind that 2e was smaller text and less pictures too. I'm guessing half the page count will be art.
I still consider it an improvement over Spelljammer. I was really worried we'd get a 32 page Planescape Campaign book, 8 pages of character options, 5 pages of Sigil, a few pages on portals, with the balance being trying to rush through 20 planes and 15 Factions in less than 20 pages...
I don't mind if they streamline a bit, cut down the number of planes/Factions. But I'm a bit worried we're going to loose some of the whimsy/weird due to balancing priorities. E.g. the Astral plane lost the switching mental stats for physical stats, I doubt spell keys/power keys are a thing, etc. All horribly unbalanced, but it added to both the character and the threat of different planes.
That doesn't seem to git with what we know of the contents of that book, but it would fit with Planescape as a product.Honestly, the Fate Domain feels like it might be earmarked for the Deck of Many Things book to me.
When I've checked in the past, 5E books actually have a higher word count per page than AD&D books did. Here is a side-by-side comparison between one of the OG Planescape booklets and one of the 5e Spelljammer. The Spelljammer font is actually smaller! And the Planescape art is taking up a lot of room.View attachment 280991
Oh I forgot Satyrs (or are they Fauns now?) were also made playable in Theros. Indeed if they have a headbutt attack, just add that.Bariaurs never had the same traction as the other species in Planescape, even the supplemental Githyanki are more popular than them.
But a Bariaur would simply be: take some abilities from the Centaur PC abilities and take some abilities from the Satyr PC abilities, drop the different abilities between male and female bariaur, as female goats do in fact have horns.
The Deck of Many Things is basically just a fantasy Tarot deck with consequences. That doesn't seem to git with what we know of the contents of that book, but it would fit with Planescape as a product.
Fair enough, I was probably thinking of the Spelljammer boxset...2e Planescape definitely was not "less pictures." The sections for each plane had art that was about 50% of each page, as did the section on each Faction (featuring a huge picture of a sample member of each faction for each one).
